Why do you care? it's just a flag without any bad connotation to it. What difference does it make

Because it's f**king boring that half a dozen countries around the world still have variations of the Union Jack as their flags. It's much better for every country's to have its unique flag.

Also, every relic of the British Empire must be torn down.

Current flag is good. New projects were ugly and stupid.

And its not relic of British Empire, mainly because British monarchs are still also monarchs of the New Zealand.

Well, the current British Empire is itself a relic of its former self, so... Tongue

I didn't meet a single person in NZ who supported it. Most saw it as an expensive distraction that has NO impact on their lives. I'm surprised it was as close as it was franky.

Also, regarding the comment about the unacceptability of the current flag due to it being a 'relic of the British empire' (something that Key himself referenced, although more obliquely), it's funny that by far the strongest votes in favour of retaining the current flag came from the Maori electorates.

Why do you want NZ to have a flag which look like a cheaply made corporate logo?

That's not even a remotely good reason.

'This flag, unlike the previous flag, can readily be distinguished from other flags' isn't a good reason?

I mean, I can readily distinguish it just fine.

I thought it looked great, actually. Not too minimalistic like the standard three-color European flags, but not too busy either. I would have preferred Option E though.

Ideally a flag should be distinguishable when hanging at all wind speeds..

Btw if you want to see an ugly Union Jack themed flag, look at Hawaii's for a particularly unappealing UK/USA/Yugoslavia hybrid.

Good for you. Many people in many contexts can't.

Even if such is true, the people of New Zealand have decided it doesn't bother them much.

The only ugly Union Jack themed flag I can think of is Niue. The yellow is disgustingly out of place.
