Johan Cruyff, one of the best and most influential soccer players/footballers of all time, has died March 24th in his home in Barcelona from lung cancer, a month before his 69th birthday.
One of the top 10 if not top 5 players of all time, perhaps the best European ever to play the sport. The center of the Total Football system that did so well in the 1970s, and influenced the tiki-taka of modern times (which Cruyff also influenced as Barcelona manager).
A fact related to politics: when playing for Barca he named his son Jordi (who later played himself), after the patron saint of Catalonia, and since that name was banned in the Franco regime he had to fly back to the Netherlands to register his name.
RIP Freedom Footballer
