There's reason to believe he won't.

No! I hope he runs as a third party candidate.

I love how Cruz eloquently said at the end of that article that "I won't rat-fyck him".

I doubt it. Too much under the bridge. The thing is, is that if Cruz bails, he will have lots of company.

The affair rumors have really burned the last, tenuous, bridge between them.

I don't think Rubio will support him either, and I have extreme doubts about Kasich.  Graham and Bush pretty obviously won't either.

No way. Ted Cruz is one of the few politicians that could probably openly campaign against Trump in the general and not pay politically for it.

The question is irrelevant.

Trump will NOT be the GOP nominee.

He's said on several occasions that he's support the eventual nominee. Even if it were trump.

I would say not.

Trump has the nomination on a platter, yet his self-obsession still forces him to behave like a 13yo.

This just helps Hillary.

It may work at this stage, but in the GE, Trump will look back on these moments and wish he kept his mouth shut.

I think when the choice becomes Trump or Clinton, he will back Trump. He won't campaign for Trump or anything like that, the endorsement will be a formality.

I was starting to think, of course he would. But stuff is probably getting personal enough, that he won't. The question is, then, what does he do? He'd never endorse Hillary outright. But would he give in on his treasured principles? Would he actually hate Trump enough to give a wink wink Hillary endorsement? Would he just keep his mouth shut (thats hard to imagine)? I guess he probably would, because most of his supporters will.

Definitely yes. Trump will give him something good, be it the VP spot or the SCOTUS position.

He makes a statement supporting "the Republican Party" and leaves it at that.

Christine Todd Whitman said that she'll probably vote for Clinton if Trump is the GOP nominee, but I can't really see any Republican politicians who currently hold office endorsing her.  All of the "Trump skeptics" in the GOP who currently hold office will do one of the following:

1) Say that they're going to vote third party.

2) Say that they're going to write in a name.  (Likely a totally symbolic name--someone who has no interest in running.  E.g., in 2004, Lincoln Chafee said he wrote in George H.W. Bush's name rather than vote for Bush II or John Kerry.)

3) Say that they'll grudgingly vote for Trump solely because the alternative is worse, not because they think he'd be a good president.  ("Endorsement at a distance", so to speak.)  They'll keep Trump at arm's length, and won't do any public appearances with him.

Cruz will keep his word to support the GOP nominee but he won't campaign or fundraise or do anything like that, and after this week you can take Trump/Cruz unity ticket off the table too.

I think this was the week when the Donald went too far and it is starting to stick.   It won't be enough to deny him the Republican nomination, but the combined abandonment of a fair number of the establishment and the conservatives will crush him in November.

He'll say that he "has to keep his promise" and support the party nominee but he won't actively campaign for him.

Why?  He's lied before.
