I wonder what happens to all those ripped jerseys.

Switzerland deserved a penalty there.

What the heck, I'll toss out crazy picks for the final match days of the group stage if I remember to.

Russia 1-1 Wales
Slovakia 2-1 England

Slovakia 6
England 4
Wales 4
Russia 2

(I won't guess the discipline tiebreaker since they are currently tied in that too. I'd imagine both advance under such a scenario as D or F should yield a lower ranking team. And if that fails, E would be likely as well with Swedish and Irish losses or draws against rather good teams.)

This ESPN Spain-biased commentary is getting on my nerves.

I also dislike the new formula (?) of disappearing foam.

Halftime: I have trust in Hungary to eliminate Ronaldo from this competition scoreless.

Edit (50'): Hrmphf!

Edit (55'): I'm liking this Dzsudzsák guy Smiley

Edit (62'): You've got to be kidding.... What's the score gonna be, 5-4 Hungary?

My god was this embarrassing, 1-2 Iceland, in the last minute. But given the utter sh-t they were playing, Austria didn't deserve anything else. It's probably for the best they are out now.

Semifinals:

Poland > Belgium

Austria > Germany (it's obvious I'm just making it Poland vs. Austria at this point, right? Tongue)

Finals:

Austria > Poland (it is revealed that Matthias Sindelar didn't actually die of mysterious circumstances in 1939, but elaborately faked his death so he could come back and become the oldest player, at the age of 113, to score a goal in international competition since Samuel Eto'o.)

Not meant to be offensive or anything, but Leinad: Are you nuts ?

Tongue

(I don't see how the Austrian team does that well. They are not likely to get much further than the 1/8th finals. They had a good qualification season, but are probably not ready for "primetime" yet against countries other than Hungary or Iceland. Or as Q said in Star Trek TNG: "The hall is rented, the orchestra engaged. It's now time to see if they can dance.")

They cannot dance ...

The lopsidedness of the distribution of teams in the knockout bracket is beyond ridiculous: You have Germany, Italy, Spain, France and England all on one half!

Seriously... On the other side you have Wales, N. Ireland, Croatia, Switzerland, Hungary, and Poland...

Some of the sides in the 'weak' half of the draw have played good attacking football. But whatever: I learned years ago that most people talking about sport (any sport) on the internet haven't got a fycking clue what they're talking about.

It is certainly true that teams like Croatia, Wales, Hungary and Belgium have seemed stronger than, say, England.

Then again, in my experience football history tends to reaffirm itself in the knockout stages for some weird reason. I would rather face and of the above teams than Spain, Germany or Italy even when they latter look bad.

That reaffirming tends to be more of a World Cup thing (where there are more 'elite' countries) than a Euro thing. Greece and Denmark have won the EURO so I wouldn't rule out a shock. Honestly though apart from Poland v Switzerland (zzzzzz....) the games on the top half of the draw look more entertaining than those on the bottom half.

Saturday Predictions:

    Switzerland 0-1 Poland

I don't know, let's say Lewandowski finally scores. He's due. #Pseudoscience

    Wales 2-0 Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland has failed to score against any team other than Ukraine, who were terrible, while Wales has scored more this tournament (a misleading statistic, but whatever) than anyone but Hungary (both with 6).

   Croatia 2-1 Portugal

Hard to pick against Cristiano Ronaldo, but even harder to pick a team that has not yet won a game against a team that just beat Spain while missing their best player.

That's a fair point I suppose.
