Some of the sides in the 'weak' half of the draw have played good attacking football. But whatever: I learned years ago that most people talking about sport (any sport) on the internet haven't got a fycking clue what they're talking about.

Most people tend not to actually watch much of a sport and the gut reaction is things that sound familiar are good (or even worse is when they begin repeating talk radio opinions as biblical).

This referee clearly can't discern quality tackling from a foul, most likely because he has never seen quality defending. And the allowances for shirt-pulling are a bit much.

THE REF'S BEEN PAID OFF an egotistic idiot!

Italia deserved this win. Spain's dirty tricks and the terrible referee...

Bellissimi!!!! Cheesy

What a great game! Would have been perfect with a competent referee, but the better team won regardless.

Now off to beating Germany once more! Cheesy

I know England voted overwhelmingly to exit Europe, but I don't think this is what they had in mind Smiley.

well that cheered me right up

its not like they didn't deserve it; Iceland played well but England just bottled it.  I'm pretty sure that my Dad could pass better than some of those players

Not good, but I for one will be rooting for that.

Ireland-Iceland would have been great.

Honestly I'm probably happier about Iceland winning than England losing; the latter is always sweet but as someone from a small European country with a football team that everyone patronises I always like it when our comrades around the world embarrass one of the giants

It's funny that a country that has so much money in football can't beat a team that has a population comparable with Coventry. Iceland are showing that money isn't everything in football - and for that I salute them.

I think Hodgson will be sacked now though.
EDIT: He's resigned.

He's walked; I assume before he was pushed.

It might be grassroots level stuff; when you're Iceland and don't have any professional teams that's what you focus your investment in.  England aren't lacking there, but its not the focus and that might be part of the problem

Also ITV have already prepared their "NEXT ENGLAND MANAGER?" graphic, they were expecting this

I'm really starting to like this Guğmundur Benediktsson guy. Also peeved at how so many people are spelling the 'ğ' as a 'd', even though it makes a 'th' sound.
