With $49.3 Billion and direct control of one of the largest social media platforms, he'd certainly have some advantages. Maybe he would run as an Independent, since he's apparently donated money to Booker, Schumer, and Pelosi, but also Boehner, Ryan, Rubio, and Hatch. He certainly has the money necessary to self-fund an Indy run.

I don't know if I would vote for Zuckerberg, but it would be interesting to see what his campaign would look like. He'd also get bonus points from me for being able to mount a prominent third-party campaign.

Bernie Sanders is, to borrow a phrase, more concept than reality. I can't imagine him running a successful general election campaign.

I don't think dems will be choosing any outsiders, especially billionaires like Disney and Cuban.

Disney?  Smiley

I'm reminded of a particular timeline on AH.com...

Robert Wolf @robertwolf32
#2020? @SALTConference @JoeBiden  is asked about running for President "Could I run- yes- will I- probably not but....I may very well do it"

https://twitter.com/robertwolf32/status/865378563515703296?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet

It's also worth mentioning that he said that while in the early caucus state of Nevada.  So just in the last couple of months, Biden has visited three out of the four early states (only missing Iowa).

Honestly, I think Biden is just having fun with the speculation. He might not even run in the end, but he enjoys knowing that he could if he wanted to.

I have consistently believed that any truly great 2020 ticket should have Tom Hanks in it somewhere. Obviously, my belief still stands.

Guys... both Maggie Hassan and Kusty go to New Hampshire quite frequently... are they planning something in 2020???!?

They represent New Hampshire, so of course they go to New Hampshire...therefore that joke is idiotic.

I can't wait to hear your take on other jokes:
"He would only have to say 'The name of the player on first base is Who'... therefore that joke is idiotic."
"Of course the chicken has to cross the road to get to the other side... therefore that joke is idiotic."
"I have a doorbell, so you wouldn't have to say 'knock, knock' if you were at my house... therefore that joke is idiotic."

WaPo has a new story on Sherrod Brown in which he’s asked about running for prez in 2020, and he says “I just don’t want to do it”:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/sherrod-brown-thinks-he-could-have-helped-democrats-win-in-2016-but-what-about-2020/2017/07/23/168ac16c-6b2d-11e7-b9e2-2056e768a7e5_story.html?utm_term=.f5c85a999a39

The story also includes a lot of discussion about Brown’s participation in the veepstakes last year.  Despite his current denial of interest in running for prez, he says that he “relished” the idea of campaigning in other Midwestern states, had he been the VP nominee last year:

I'm glad it has confirmed that Sherrod Brown isn't currently dying from a stage IV throat cancer.

Also, I'm totally on the Sherrod 2020 train now.

Every time I hear Sherrod Brown speak, I always remember how good he was as Freddy Krueger in the Nightmare on Elm Street movies.

Why aren't former governors being considered at all? Napolitano, Baldacci, Schweitzer, Lynch, Locke even.

I only definitely know who two of those unadorned surnames are referring to, so that might be part of the reason. Here's my expert analysis on who I'll assume you're talking about:

University of California chancellor, former HomeSec, and former Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano: Not in the news. Also, UoC baggage comes to mind.
Former Monatana governor Brian Schweitzer: The one Montana Democrat whose chances Atlas overhypes more than Steve Bullock.

And now, my Totally Serious guesses for the other three:

Thriller novelist David Baldacci: I guess writing Executive Power means he knows at least what a President is, but I don't know if that entitles him to the nuclear codes.
Surrealist filmmaker David Lynch: Middle America hates Lost Highway, it's a well-established fact. Furthermore, the Fire Walk With Me reassessment hasn't reached suburban voters yet, because it's biographical for a lot of them.
English philosopher John Locke: He wasn't born here, so he's not eligible. And he's dead, although that didn't hurt that one guy in Missouri once. The white-working class in Michigan and Ohio also strongly prefer Kant and Rosseau in surveys.

Ewwwwwww.

There's only one mayor I support for president, and he's about 3,000 miles west of that and slow jamming every time the 101 closes down. (I fully acknowledge the fact that even if he does run, I may be one of his only supporters.)

"Everyone's running for president in 2020"

Can confirm. I have had seven Draft PACs launched in my name already even though I will never be constitutionally eligible. I have also rented condos in Iowa and New Hampshire, like everyone else.

Idk if Garcetti is capable of winning, but I wouldn't mind him running if only because the issues he's championed as mayor (transit, homelessness, housing affordability) are things I wished Democrats talked more about. I think it's also worth pointing out that LA's definitely more of a working-class city than people from the outside think it is, and it's dealt with a lot of the same issues Rust Belt cities have. (LA also has the largest manufacturing sector in the country fwiw...)

I like Garcetti, and wouldn't mind him running, basically for the same reasons you've described. If we have to have one big city mayor in the race, better him than De Blasio.

Apparently, John Kerry was born in 1943, which means he will be 77 in 2020. Finally, a young candidate!
