I have truly mixed feelings on Gordoon. It seems like the only time he really unleashed his full potential was in the economic crisis, otherwise he seemed to have a lot of self-inflicted wounds during both his time as Chancellor and PM.

Best PM Britain had since 1979. Of course that's as faint a praise as it gets.

Much like how i'd consider Obama the best president since 1981.

Brown was an overly proud and narcissistic man with a dangerous authoritarian streak. His skill set and character might be a better fit for the IMF vs. residing in Downing Street. I certainly would not have voted for him in 2010.

I agree with the general consensus that he fundamentally lacked the character or temperament to be a good Prime Minister.

Spend far too long at the Treasury; I've always wondered how he would have done if Blair had moved him after 2001/2003 to give him exposure. Although I remember the talk that if he called an election in 07 he would have scrapped a majority (and probably almost killed the tories)

He was a decent PM, and I thank my stars that he was PM during the whole crisis rather than John Reid or David Miliband.
