Despite the fact that Trump has described himself as an 'ardent philanthropist', he is actually one of the least charitable billionaires in the world. He is most likely the least charitable billionaire on the whole entire planet. He has donated almost nothing to charity. Disgusting man. Do you think this will hurt Trump at all? I could easily see Hillary attacking Trump for being selfish because he's donated so little.

TBF real estate wealth can't easily be translated into cash.

Donald Trump has made dreams come true through his businesses. And not just for some worthless rich people investing in a hedge fund.

You must have also missed the touching moment this week when a woman attending his rally broke into tears over a letter he sent her while she was dying. Clearly not a plant because when he asked if she was doing better, she wasn't -- she was going to succumb to her illness, but her child was going to have a college education paid for even without her there for him thanks to Donald Trump many years ago.

I wonder what that says about the future of his "self-funded" campaign, should he win the nomination.

This. It's no one's business how he spends his earned money.

I hate defending Trump, but you people make it hard sometimes...

No.

Trump inherited his father's business. He inherited $40 million-$200 million in the 1970's ($200 million-$950 million in 2016 numbers). He started out with a lot more than one million. He'd be nothing without his father. He has also really underperformed as a real estate investor.

FALSE yet again. "Inherit" would be the wrong word and once again you've provided no proof of underperformance.

I suspect one of the reasons Trump doesn't want to release his tax records (he could release the years prior to the current audit right now) is because he doesn't want any scrutiny over this. Not only is there the issue of how much he gives, but who has he given to. Does he really support the vets as he has claimed? And how much has he given to non-GOP friendly groups like Planned Parenthood.

If he was a private citizen, it wouldn't matter what he did with his money.

He's running for president, and the things you've done for others over the years with the resources at your disposal (pro bono legal work, military service, philanthropy, etc.) matter. Public service is expected of presidential candidates and there's no reason it should not be. And when the candidate describes himself as an "ardent philanthropist", it matters even more.

Most philanthropy is much less, err, noble than it appears. Trump just doesn't bother with the niceties that the other rich feel obliged to perform.

You cant say he is the least charitable as many billionaires' finances would be private.

Hilariously, Senator Sanders once addressed a fundraiser by complaining that he doesn't believe in charity.

It being 'no one's business' should not be extend so far as to mean that he is magically exempt from all criticism or censure. Thoroughgoing moral individualism is bunk.

Of course CrabCake is also completely right.

Trump's self-funding is built on him taking out loans on his assets that I'm assuming he plans to pay back with RNC cash when he captures the nomination.

You guys are missing the point.

Trump has called himself an 'ardent philathropist.' He constantly brags about being a great philathropist despite the fact that he has most likely donated less to charity than any other billionaire on the planet.

Trump is cheap. He's not going to spend a dime of his own money.
