Full-blown Azeri assault on the entire front line. Big war, it seems.

Russians must be happy now although I don't think that it were the Russians who pressed on reopening of conflict in Karabakh. Azeris usually buys weapons from Russia so I guess here comes the money for Russian military sector, although oil prices drop do not help Azeris in that situation. Focus on military may also weaken Azerbeijan attempts to cooperate with other countries in creating alternative transport routes against Russian petroleum-gas hegemony.

Azerbaijan reported that 12 of its soldiers were killed in action and that a Mil Mi-24 helicopter and tank were also destroyed. Armenia said 18 ethnic-Armenian soldiers had died in the fighting, among the worst in two decades.

Is it possible or probable that's code word for separatists, and not actual Armenian soldiers?

Are the Azeris trying to consolidate the government or something? Seems like weird timing--not that any timing would be good for this of course...

It undoubtedly means separatists. "Code word" suggests they're trying to hide the fact though, they're not at all. Nagorno-Karabakh Republic considers itself independent. If the Armenians were being biased, they would say "Nagorno-Karabakh soldiers had died" (which they actually probably did). Ethnic Armenians is about as neutral as you can get, as they are internationally recognized as a ethnic Armenian citizens of Azerbaijan.

Putin's rampant adventurism surely has not helped this situation much.

The Azerbaijanis are more like Ukraine in this situation. Since they are trying to take back a piece of land that legally belongs to them but none of the inhabitants want to be Azerbaijanis. Armenia is like Russia in this case.

It was pretty obvious that Zionist Wahabbi funded regimes also pull strings during that conflict!!
Now we have proof! Jew stand behind this, as always!

It seems pretty clear-cut to me that, even though the Armenians are allied with regimes I strongly dislike, their claim to Karabakh is the just one and it seems as though in the present clashes they have been attacked.

Definitely hope there will be no escalation of the conflict.

I obviously hope this doesn't escalate, and I don't hate Armenia, I'm just supporting the Azeris.

Is it this the least covered war in recent years? all major media sources ran with a story or two and gone silent I have to dig for info on obscure military enthusiasts sites.

My knowledge of this conflict is fairly shallow so I'm not picking sides here (some liberal professor here tried to brainwash me to the Armenian side a few years ago), hope Putin sorts his backyard soon.

No kidding. I wouldn't know about the whole thing if not for the forum.

Though the least covered? I don't know. Many African wars are barely covered.

Oil prices are one of reasons for this escalation. Azerbaijani regime needs to get people on their side during times of economic crisis. Then they need to go to war to recover some support.
