1789-1795: Federalist
1796-1828: Democratic-Republican
1829-1833: National Republican
1834-1847: Whig
1848-1853: Free Soil
1854-1911: Republican
1912: Progressive
1913-1945: Democrat
1945-1974: Republican
1974-Present: Democrat

Probably would have swung to Johnson in '64, and would later regret voting for Nixon, obviously.

What would have caused you to re-register as a Republican in 1945?

Truman. I would have sought a religious exemption to the draft in WWII, but still supported FDR in his work on the homefront. The use of nuclear weapons would have been completely unacceptable to me.

Curious why you'd switch to the GOP after socialists lost relevance rather than the Democrats.  The Democratic Party of the 1950s was pretty darn similar to the one of the 1960s.

1789-1825: Federalist
1825-1831: National Republican
1831-1839: Democratic
1839-1848: Liberty
1848-1856: Free Soil
1856-1884: Republican (The GOP loses me at this point since it's clear that they have no interest in really doing anything about civil rights and are just interested in defending big business.
1884-1892: Independent swing voter
1892-1899: Socialist Labor
1899-1933: Socialist (though might sometimes vote Democrat depending on the candidate)
1933-1996: Democrat
1996-Present: Green In actuality i'm still a registered Democrat though I don't really identify with the party at the moment.
