Background: So this takes place in a world where the Hispanic, black and "educated" whites all vote the same way, while the "uneducated" whites vote the other way. Asians are swing voters.

Election 2016

Welcome to election night 2016. After 8 years of the Democrats holding the White House under President Orrin Hatch, they Republicans battle to win back the White House. On the Democratic side Vice President Elizabeth Warren ran and won the nomination easy. On the Republican side, rising star Kirsten Gillibrand, Governor from the battleground state of New York, out lasted a hard fought primary against Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina.

Elizabeth Warren ends of picking Sen. Mark Kirk, the poplar Senator out of Illinois in hopes of swinging that State to the Democratic side. Gillibrand taps North Carolina Governor. Anthony Foxx as her running mate.

Polls going into election night

VP. Warren/Sen. Kirk: 242

This is a timeline where issue and political alliances are different. So our way of thinking this person should be in this party and that one is off. Because things are different, People thinking are different. Basically the Democrats are more of a Farmer - Labour party while the Republicans are urban area party that wins the n0n-white votes. Social issues aren't that big. I'll try to come up with come views for each party.

How the Parties line up

Hot Button Issues

- Government funding for farmers: Democrats support it, while Republicans do not.
- Government funding for research of cloning: Republicans support it, while Democrats don't
- Government funding for NASA to build Human colony on the Moon: Republicans support while Democrats don't.
- Having over populated cities take land from rural states to be able to use for resources: Republicans support, while Democrats do not.
- Making Spanish and English the National language of the USA: Republicans support it, while Democrats do not support a national language at all.
- Government funding for rebuilding low-in areas of cities(mostly black areas): Republicans support it, while Democrats do not.

IRL, Orrin Hatch came from a Democratic family and was a card carrying labor union member in his youth.

This is really, really cool!

Are state demographics, major industries and average incomes similar to real life?  If so, New England and NM/MS are quite interesting here.  NM looks a lot like real life WV, where they overwhelmingly support the party that shares their cultural values over the party that would favor them economically.  But wow, Massachusetts and Mississippi.  Is Mississippi majority-black or is MIT the Mississippi Institute of Technology in this world?

It really looks like John W. Davis won in 1924 and 1928, leading to Republican landslides during the Depression and WWII.  The farm/rural development aid parts of the New Deal never happened, but something else must have passed to help the urban poor.  In the 1930's, the Republicans passed civil rights laws and by the early 1940's, SCOTUS enforced them strictly.  Full black participation in the postwar boom wiped out the income gap between black and white families by the late 20th century, but it reopened somewhat after an economic crisis under a Democratic president.  Farm subsidies are a recent development, dating to the 1980's farm crisis at the earliest.

Am I on the right track?

Everything outside the political world has developed pretty much the same. But you are kinda on track with everything else. In this world civil rights movement happen a lot sooner, plus women's right to vote did too. The Republicans supported them rights. Social Issues, like we face today aren't in the political world. Its more of the cities vs. the rural fight. The over populated cities want to take land from near by rural areas and states to have "city farms" so they cost of food for the cities are cheaper. So in a state like New York you have the New York City area against the rest of the state. African Americans and Hispanic vote heavily Republican.

One a side note. Democrats are labeled "crop growers" while Republicans are labeled "city slickers".

Very interesting. ITTL I would probably still be Republican, with most of my "cultural" values actually fitting in better with them than they do IRL.
