Kansas is quite frankly decided by the moderate Republicans. In 2002, 2006, and 2014, there was a Republicans-for-the-Democrat campaign. The Lt. Governor being a moderate Republican for a Democrat is like McCain picking Lieberman for VP.

Yes, but even then, Lieberman would have been so much better than the alternative.

Orman isn't going to run for governor in 2018. Paul Davis is all but running again. He's signalled over the past year or so that he will be preparing a campaign. I think it will be perhaps tougher to win without Brownback to oppose. Obviously the agenda will still be a relevant and credible point of opposition, but Derick Schmidt or Kevin Yoder or Lynn Jenkins don't quite rouse as much controversy as Brownback. Paul Davis had a chance in 2014, but messed it up.

He's under 50 and he did pretty well in a conservative state in a very Republican year. A slight problem for him is that Paul Davis, a Democrat, did a little bit better, so he likely has right of first refusal.

The best bet for either of them would be to run for Governor when there's a Republican in the White House, or for the Senate in an open seat where an extremist Republican has a chance of winning the nomination.

But Davis had the easier race.

If one of Brownback's group, like Rep. Tim Huelskamp, State Rep. Richard Carson(Chair of the Committee that passed HB2117), Jeff Colyer, or Ron Estes, gets the nomination, I think Orman could win by 5-10 points.

Huelskamp is too weak to win the nomination and Ron Estes will probably run for KS-4 if Pompeo runs against Moran this year.  Haven't heard anything about Carson, but Coyler will likely run for Governor.  That said, Orman won't win against any of these guys, much less by 5-10%.  Plus, I don't think Orman even wants it.
