If one believe the unborn to be a person then this is the logical position.
A rape exception is saying it is okay as long as the woman isnt responsible for the pregnancy. Sure a woman shouldnt have to endure carrying her rapists child but if one is truly concerned about the childs right to life it makes sense not to have such an exception. It isnt such a simple matter as "oh my god he is a woman hating wackjob".

Cruz is far too right on social issues, and in this case I disagree with his position.

That said, I do agree with one thing Cruz said, and that is that states should debate their own limits on reproductive rights. The idea that folks living in Mississippi or Alabama have to abide by the same rules as those living in Vermont or Massachusetts seems a bit ludicrous. Yes, there are issues that need to be addressed nation wide, but reproductive rights are so contentious that I'm not sure they need to be among these.

I'm not voting Cruz, and let's face it, this moderate hero position ain't gonna be a political winner. It's only likely to appeal to those for whom abortion is not a primary issue.
