Bernie Sanders has (thankfully) backtracked his earlier comments:

Sanders reverses: ‘Of course’ Clinton is qualified

If he backtracked, then it must have really been damaging for him.

Well, maybe we can hope that both candidates realize that too much negativity is never a good thing, and that taking a dump on Trump, or NOT choosing Cruz is the goal for November.

Of course it hurt him because it was a stupid line of attack.
Americans might believe a lot of things for Hillary but being unqualified for president isn't one of them.

Now we know what his internal polling showed.

Reality check: going negative on a candidate doesn't work when you're behind. It only causes people to retreat further into their camps. In Bernie's case, he's not convincing anybody by going negative on Hillary, he's speaking to the choir and motivating her supporters to turn out. Hillary's supporters have seen the mud being thrown on her for 20 years, and nothing Bernie says is going to change their minds.

Luckily, Sanders seems to have realized this attack on Hillary is pointless for everybody except for the Republicans.
