RONALD REAGAN ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY

Hello, what a wonderful crowd we have today! And I mean it! I am here today to announce my candidacy for the presidency of the United States of America! Now, we are in deep crisis, the Iranians have captured our hostages, and what is president Carter doing to stop it? Nothing! And look, Carter is facing a tough road for the nomination, lets see here... We have Mr. Segregation, and a Washington outsider! How will he face off against someone who he was? Now, we all know I nearly got the nomination in '76, I now hope to gain it in 1980! And hopefully the presidency! God bless California and god bless the United States of America!

REAGAN ENDORSEMENTS

William F. Buckley

Reagan is a definition of a true conservative! He is not an extremist nor is he a centrist. I hope that you will support Reagan through and through in the primaries, and later on the general.
Reagan will appear on Buckley's show Firing Line Sometime in turn 2

Alexander Haig

Ronald Reagan's foreign policy makes the most sense. Since I was a former NATO commander, I am pretty knowledgeable on foreign policy, and Reagan's is one of the best out there
Haig will be reaching out to veterans and American troops stationed in Europe

James S. Thurmond

Ronald Reagan is what a true conservative looks like, and I am confident that he will make America in a better state than it already is1  Which is why I am supporting Ronald Reagan for the presidency
Thurmond will be reaching out to South Carolinian voters

1.(I was going to say "make America great again" but then I realized that Wallace has that slogan.

REAGAN FOR PRESIDENT 1980 ENDORSEMENTS

George H.W Bush

Let me tell you about Reagan, he has the guts to tell it like it is. Anderson and McCloskey are nothing more than Democrats in all but name.

Bush will be a Reagan surrogate

Bob Dole

In a time like this, we need strong leadership. The Carter administration has been the weakest administration in my life. Vote Reagan for a strong administration and a prosperous America!

Dole will be reaching out to Midwestern voters

REAGAN FOR PRESIDENT 1980 ADS

"Extremist"

They are a lot of extremists everywhere

Like the ones that attacked our embassy

The ones that took our hostages

The ones that burn our flags screaming "Death to America!"

Everyone has a different opinion of whose one and whose not. Now, you may ask, "What is a presidential candidate's idea of an extremist? Well, lets see

"Don't nominate an extremist like Ronald Reagan.", Said Pete McCloskey

"Reagan's policies are the same sort of extremism from the Dixiecrats!" Said John Anderson

Of course, the extremists aren't anti-American foreign flag burners that attack embassies and take hostages, nah, its Reagan! Hes the extremist!

Well, no, he isn't. The only people who think that are those that don't see whats going on in the middle east. McCloskey and Anderson both don't know whats going on in the middle east, they don't think an Extremist is an embassy attacker, they think it is their opponent. Vote for Governor Reagan.

To be aired in: Iowa, Massachusetts and New Hampshire

Ronald Reagan debate answers

Question One: Well, first of all, we have an enormous tax rate and government regulation is too much. Under the Carter administration, we have seen nothing but naked overreach. But what separates me from Representative Anderson is that my proposals will return to the free enterprise principals and a free market economy that has been in place before the Great Depression. This may be unpopular, but this is the only reasonable way to fix the economy

Question Two: No, It won’t. We will not and we should not look weak in the face of our enemy. There is nothing to gain from holding summits other than destroyed prestige.

Question Three: Is this question some sort of sick joke? I would never drop the embargo on any Communist country. Also, we are helping our own farmers by continuing this embargo. When a Communist country depends on us for our food supply, this shows our supremacy.

Good evening, my fellow Americans. I am here today to show why I am a better choice in the primaries and the election. I would like to ask Mr. Anderson a question. During the 60's, you introduced a bill to, in your own words, "recognize the law and authority of Jesus Christ". You wanted this put in the constitution not one, not two, but three times! Now, I'am as religious as the next guy, but your bill shows that you wanted to make Religion a public matter, to make America a christian nation. This goes against the Constitution, one of our greatest traditions is Religious Tolerance, not Fundamentalism. I would like to ask you this, Mr. Anderson, why did you introduce this bill in the first place?

In response to Representative Anderson's question, while I was governor of California, The State Legislature was majority-Democrat. I couldn't just keep vetoing it, I needed to compromise with the Democratic Legislature. As president, I want the American people to understand this: No new taxes! As for the Civil rights question, well, my support by gunpoint quote was before my tenure as governor, and I really didn't think about those things until 1966. Also, in 1965, we saw the devastating Watts riots. Like many Americans, I was shocked, but my response went overboard. My question for representative Anderson is this, in the 1960s, you voted for the Gulf of Tonkin resolution. After that, you were strongly anti-war. If you are too accuse me of flip-flopping, why don't you try to clarify this?/i]

I would like to thank the people that came here to this forum, and Representative Anderson for appearing. Iowans, you have a couple of weeks until voting starts. You could vote for me or Anderson. But let me make this clear: The time is now. I will offer real change and prosperity to this great nation. I have changed California for the best. Ask any Californian, they will say that I have done a good job. Unlike Anderson, I had held the executive branch of the government. On January 14th, Iowans, do the right thing, vote for experience, vote for change. Thank you all, this was my closing statement
