HP. The reason Stalin was able to orchestrate his purging was because the rest of the Bolshevik Party thought he was a HP.

The Bolshevik Revolution would have been a success had they tossed away both Stalin and Trotsky.

Bolshevism was the implementation of a quack science, on a pile of corpses. The idea that it would have succeeded in the absence of Stalin means little. Whoever was in charge would have been killing people to stay in power, though perhaps not to the same extent.

Offing him was one of the few decent things Stalin ever did.

While I don't dislike Trotsky, I don't see him as a saint either. In my opinion he probably would have done a okay job as leader of the Soviet Union if it wasn't for Stalin and World War 2 creating weird alliances with nations. I think Stalin was able to keep his cool because he focused more on his own nation at the time, while Trotsky would be focusing too much on bringing socialism into other countries.

I can't vote FF for a man who commanded the Red Army during the Polish-Bolshevik War.

On a theoretical level, I actually prefer Stalin to Trotsky. Trotsky was basically an anarchist. His criticisms of Stalin weren't that Stalin murdered millions of people, it was that Stalin established a strong state apparatus.

Honestly like really dumb, Trotsky would be responsible mass deaths due to his permanent revolution. The actual socialist state ended with Lenin dying, though I don't mind Khrushchev, even if it wasn't a workers state.

At the time I saw that as the worst offender in the post, I however realized I was wrong once I regained my ability to think properly.

This. I still have The Revolution Betrayed and The Russian Revolution on my bookshelf. Amazing works even if you disagree with the perspective.

Terrible. All of the Russian leaders were trash after Kerensky until Gorbachev, and those two were only tolerable in comparison.
Defending Kerensky is not a hill you want to die on.

I can't argue with you there, but he was better than Stalin or Trostky, surely? He refused to support the White Army when he easily could have.

Being better than Stalin or Trotsky isn't exactly something that could be described as difficult. Don't also forget that he refused to remove Russia from the war when he easily could have, even the power hungry butcher of the revolution Lenin knew better than that.
