de Blasio's wife is black, so I'm guessing that's why he felt comfortable making the joke. It's just a joke and it's one that I've made before.

And if we are going to start screeching "but if Sanders said that!" let's remember that he just made a very dismissive statement about primaries that had mostly black electorates. That is far more troubling than a joke.

This is the first time I've ever heard a white person use this joke. It's mostly a joke used only by black people and it developed in the black community. It's not a slur and I'm betting some of these black people on Twitter complaining about it have used it at one point or another.

...Except for the fact that in a hyper-controlled campaign like Clinton's, everything is...well, hyper-controlled. There's no way that both she and her campaign weren't aware prior of every word in the script, every intended applause line and every response she was supposed to have. I mean, taken to its extreme, doing a parody skit involving Lee Atwater's Southern Strategy remarks wouldn't necessarily involve her saying it, but it'd involve her knowing ahead of time that the "n*****, n*****" bit was coming.

Really? Where I'm from I've only ever heard white people make it, and never in a positive way. I had to double-check that the article was not an April fools joke when I first read the transcript of the punchline. Glad to know its not racist or bad like I always thought.

Obviously extremely scripted, even down to the "I don't like jokes like that."  Reads like something out of a bad episode of The Daily Show where Jon Stewart is "clueless white guy" and accidentally says offensive things while Wyatt Cenac winces or something like that.

It's not funny, but it's not racist either.  The point of the joke was "Is Bill de Blasio a racist?  NO just kidding, politicians and black people have completely different meanings for that word."
