He pardoned Eugene V. Debs and shut down many other of Woodrow Wilson's other fascist tendencies. So he's a FF in my book.

FF, though corrupt. Million times better to his two successors.

Too corrupt to be FF, and he let that snake called Andrew Mellon into power. Everything wrong with the '20's starts with him.

The poster-boy for why big, benevolent government is important.

He was a fantastic President and one of the finest one-termers to have graced the White House.

And he deserves it. Corrupt and shallow; worst President between the start of the 20th century (America was very different before 1900 in its politics) and Dubya, the worst since Buchanan.

Harding's pardoning of Debbs was absolutely an awesome move that I think all should appreciate, but I find his high standing among Atlas lefties very interesting.

I mean, compared to Wilson... (Note the type of leftie)

Awful but not as awful as he's sometimes made out (neither apologist nor blind parroter of conventional wisdom).

Did some lazy man's history (Wikipedia) and he's pretty much what I remember.  Let his appointees do their thing, which in the case of Hughes was fine, in the case of the many corrupt appointees not so fine (of course, he lasted little more than 2 years as president, so maybe he would have redeemed himself given the chance).

He did pardon Debs, but not until the peace treaties were all signed, so Debs spent an extra 9 months in jail and seems to indicate that it's OK to jail war protestors at least as long as the war is going on.

He wasn't the bigot that Wilson was, so that was nice.

He cut taxes for the rich, didn't like unions, promoted tariffs for agriculture, unemployment remained very high for his first two years and the Dems gained quite a few seats in the midterm.

Of course, he was a horndog in private life, including fathering a child with Nan Britton, whose obsessiveness with Harding makes Monica Lewinsky look rather passive.  She also claimed that Harding brought her some white pills when she was pregnant that Mrs Harding had used to solve similar problems (abortions for everybody!)

I voted HP, but INC is probably a better grade.

His civil rights actions are nice, but I'm not a fan of his relatively isolationist foreign policy and conservative domestic policy. I also don't think that he was a particularly able president, as shown by the scandals.

He's often unfairly declared the worst president because no one particularly cares about him, so you can trash him without looking overly partisan or ideological. He was corrupt but eh, so were a lot of other presidents. Teapot Dome is legal now.

The 2nd most corrupt president in the history of the United States is in no way an FF.
Who said anything about Lyndon Johnson?

In all seriousness, from Wilson to Hoover, Harding and Coolidge were the least responsible for the Great Depression. Wilson oversaw the creation of the Federal Reserve, the weakening of small labor, and the growth of corrupt labor unions and businesses
