A president and former world-class businessman who ended stupid trade deals, eliminated the deficit, presided over an economic boom who had a great sense of humor and was a great communicator.

If he's successful, he'll be viewed this way.

If he's a failure, he'll be viewed like a 21st century Ulysses S. Grant.

I do think that, over time, the silly assertions of Trump being a racist will fade from view.  The idea that he was compared to George Wallace will be considered as silly.

Are there any examples of a historical figure who's considered less racist now than he/she was at the time? I think everyone is thought of as more racist by people in 2017 than they were by their contemporaries.

Maybe Woodrow Wilson.  Maybe.

Maybe William Jennings Bryan, who was once lionized after his death as "The greatest Klansman of them all!".  

Maybe FDR, due to the Japanese Interment.
