Well I said she'll get at least 75% of the black vote in Maryland, I didn't say 90% like in Alabama. Almost all polls have the African-American vote similar to 65-30, but then on election night she consistently gets over 70%.

I can see Sanders getting 36% here. On election night. If he's lucky. NoVA already showed us how PG and Montgomery counties will vote, and we know that Clinton will get at least 75% of the black vote like in every other southern state.

Maryland is not a southern state. Period.

Garbage. We're talking about culture and demographics, not geography. If Maryland is culturally a southern state, so is Pennsylvania. Might as well throw in Delaware for good measure while you're at it.

Well as you can see, Delaware is already in the US Census designated Southern region, so no need to throw it in there.

I am surprised - This is pretty damn good for Sanders - MD has one of the highest Black population, higher than NC or SC I think.

If there is one state where Clinton can win 34-40-45% it is MD - 22% now, I am hoping with time left, Sanders can push & get a NC type result & get to a 16-17% loss!

LOL

I don't care about some stupid census region designed based on attitudes around slavery. Maryland and the "bible belt" share nothing significant culturally, politically, or geographically in the present day, and the regions should be changed to reflect that.

Yes that meant it was a southern state 150 years, but not now.

Lief is a fraud though who lies a lot & slanders  - He has also made continually dumb statements  - So I dunno why he gets to call out someone.

If only this forum had an IQ test, a large section of the Clintonhacks wouldn't be here because let's face they are not the sharpest knives here. But it's okay - It's  a general forum - Smart people & dumb people could both debate.

Either ways 22 is not bad for Clinton (pretty decent margin - I mean would be happy) - It's not a blowout & nothing to be overjoyed considering the huge AA population should be worse for Sanders - If I was Sanders I would be happy with this result 2 weeks back which allows me a real chance to pull of a NC type result in a very hostile state demographically.

Everyone should be happy!

And again - again - Cruz struggles to hit 30% at this stage. That's the pattern, but some people hacks want to rig a major convention for this guy? Come on.

First and foremost among these people is trump himself, by failing to contest state conventions and recruit delegate candidates around the country.

So something happened after 150 years that turned Maryland from a Southern state into a non-Southern one...

Potential electorate by region from Marist...

What would this mean for the CDs? Or is it such a gerrymandered mess that it is hard to project?

What do Maryland and Alabama share culturally today?

A history of slavery, large populations of African Americans, better food than Minnesota...

Having lived nowhere but Maryland for all of my life, I can vouch for the fact that Maryland has zero in common with the south.

Potential electorate by region from Marist...

It's horrible. We're one of the most gerrymandered states.

So something happened after 150 years that turned Maryland from a Southern state into a non-Southern one...

Yes, the nature of the state, its people, and its culture fundamentally changed.

http://fivethirtyeight.com/datalab/which-states-are-in-the-south/

"Also, Maryland — well and truly — is not a Southern state, according to actual Southerners. It pulled a pathetic 6 percent of the vote. That’s worse than Arizona and New Mexico. Walter White is more Southern than a Marylander.

Yep. 150 years ago Maryland was basically the confederacy culturally and even voted for Breckinridge, although it didn't secede. Today, no one would visit Maryland and then visit the deep south and then say "well, these places have a lot in common".

Alright, so two pages debating whether or not Maryland is a Southern state... what does this have to do with the poll again?

If large populations of African Americans means everything, then there's no point in including WV but excluding MO. And I don't think regions should be based on history, and if that means changing around the census maps every 50 years or so, so be it.

Alright, so two pages debating whether or not Maryland is a Southern state... what does this have to do with the poll again?

It means that Clinton isn't going to win Maryland AA's by the same margin as she won SC AA's.

Clearly she isn't, otherwise she'd be up by much more than 22. Also, even if Maryland is a Southern state, that doesn't mean it's just like Alabama. According to the geographic definition, Oklahoma is also a Southern state.

If Georgia began to suddenly vote similarly to Maryland, would it cease being Southern?
