An increasingly likely match-up. Your preference?

Sarkozy ofc. But isn't Juppé the frontrunner for the LR nomination?

Agreed on the second part, but Le Pen represents almost everything that is wrong with the existing French state - the centralisation, the hostility to parliamentarianism and LE STRONG (WO)MAN schtick, the economic statism, the quasi-state atheism (religion being replaced by THR GTEAT NATION), one size fits all citizenship etc. Certainly not a sensible thing for a boilerplate American conservative like yourself to support.

Is there anybody in France that would have a chance at winning that would get rid of the horrible "protecting old people with jobs" laws they have that are killing the country?

Nah, I think the Socialists are too tainted to win.

I despise Sarkozy but seriously, I'd vote for him every day over the FN.

I think I'd cast a blank ballot. Sorry but I just can't get myself to vote for Poison Dwarf.

The candidate you support is the lovechild of Le Pen and Berlusconi.

I'm actually rather fond of the quasi-dirigisme and "one side fits all citizenship." The latter is one of my favorite things about France; much preferable to the 24/7/365 low-intensity race war we have in America.

Hostility to parliamentarianism/strongmanism seems like an inevitable outcome of a presidential system. Hostility to parliamentarianism has been a defining feature of the Obama administration, though instead of strong-manism, we got technocracy.

Sarkozy, but only because he wouldn't be as hard-boiled secular. Le Pen otherwise has the much better idea of the two.

America has a 24/7 "low intensity race war"? Your evidence for that tremendously ridiculous statement?

You're a special case though. Boilerplate American conservatives saying stuff like "well France is super socialist so I'm definitely voting for the most right candidate" is more confusing. Imagine proposing a complete ban of any religious clothing in public schools and institutions at a Tea Party meeting - you'd be frozen out. Whereas that would be considered a reasonable moderate opinion in France - the fn would want to extend the ban to pretty much all public arenas.

Don't like both, but Sarkozy is the lesser evil.
