What if 1920 would have been like 1912: Teddy Roosevelt runs for and loses the Republican nomination and then enters the campaign as the Progressive's candidate while Harding is Republican nominee. The Democratic ticket remains the same.

Well, I believe that you should have clarified that.

Roosevelt would have split the vote, Cox would have won.

Well, I believe that you should have clarified that.

Roosevelt would have split the vote, Cox would have won.

I disagree, Roosevelt was a consistant hawk and in the post war period Harding's message resonated with the nation. Harding wouldn't have got an historic landslide, or even a majority (as opposed to a plurality) but victory is probable for him.

Harding barely wins, Teddy spoils a lot of Harding's lead, but the anti-Wilsonian sentiment still pulls through.

Harding/Coolidge 290 EV, 47%
Cox/Underwood: 204 EV, 37%
Roosevelt/H. Johnson: 44 EV, 16%
