Pence’s meeting with Trump “lasted for more than an hour”:

In other news, several Clinton veep prospects will be on the Sunday shows tomorrow.  Namely, Becerra, Booker, Brown, and Perez:

I almost can't believe Jeff Sessions is seriously being considered. As a Hillary supporter, there aren't too many others I would rather run against than him.

The problem is that there's an inverse relationship between "would be a reasonable choice as a running mate if a `normal' Republican was the presidential nominee" and "will accept the position and be loyal to Trump".  Most of the people who would be considered as VP in a normal year either won't take the job, or would take the job but can't really be relied on to stay loyal to Trump over the course of the campaign.

I know, but Sessions is someone who is staunchly anti-immigrant (and in that vein, Sessions would work extraordinarily well on a ticket with Trump) and rejected for a federal judgeship in 1986 for various racial statements. If Trump is intent on giving Hillary upwards of 95% of the black vote and at least 80% of the Hispanic vote, then that should be his choice.

I really doubt it's Pence. He's in the midst of his reelection campaign as gov.

I don't believe Gabriel Debenedetti's journalism here. He's the one who rushed to write a "Does Clinton even need Warren?" piece after their joint rally in Cincy and I bet his inside sources are just the Senate cafeteria ladies.

Ditto.  Pence cannot maintain a campaign as Trump's VP and keep up a race against Mustache Man.  He's on the ropes against John Gregg as it is.

RFRA really destroyed his popularity among Hoosiers, especially when Salesforce threatened to skip town over it.  Also, I thought Trump was supposed to be friendly to "The Gays."

Really hopes this means something. Booker would be an ideal pick - not a socialist, keeps up AA turnout, and likely keeps Hillary away from the D senate she can't be trusted with.

I have wondered as to whether Hillary would select Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME).  Collins has stated that she would not endorse Trump until she sees what happens at the convention.  I read this along the lines of Democratic Senators Robert Byrd, Herman Talmadge, Warren Magunson, Russell Long, and Joseph Montoya in 1972; they all told Democrat-for-Nixon Bruce Smathers that they were not happy with the McGovern endorsement and were looking for a way to avoid endorsing him.  That's where Collins is at, IMO.

If Hillary offered Collins the VP slot, I see no way she could refuse.  It would be a historic pick, and it would be such a coup that the Sanderistas couldn't credibly complain.  Collins is a moderate, and her switch to the Democrats would be credible.  Such a pick might have the effect of a lot of #NeverTrump moderates actually vote for Hillary, and not just abstain, or vote third party.

Susan Collins is a good person and she knows how to appeal to people in both parties, but she is a terrible speaker and I think Democrats would prefer her in the Senate to be a dealmaker. The Dems would obviously win her seat if she became VP, but I think her influence in the Senate is arguably more valuable than a Dem seat outright. She'd also get savaged by the GOP like what happened to Hagel when he got appointed SecDef.

The positive publicity for Hillary in picking Collins would be tremendous.  Collins could then switch parties, putting the Democrats that much closer to picking up the Senate.  Collins' mere presence on the Democratic ticket would be a stinging rebuke to Trump.

Along those lines, Christine Todd Whitman is a possible VP pick for Hillary, though nowhere near the coup Collins would be.

Problem is she is not a dealmaker. Even McCain gets more ire from rank and file Republicans than Susan Collins because when the party calls her she listens.

How would a replacement candidate be chosen if Pence becomes Trumps running mate?

If we're really looking at the possibility of Trump announcing his running mate choice this week, then we should start looking at his schedule...as well as that of his short list.

So far, it looks like all we've got on Trump's schedule this week is a campaign event in Raleigh on Tuesday at 7pm and another one in Cincinnati on Wednesday at 7pm:

https://www.donaldjtrump.com/schedule

As I said earlier in the thread, Trump will also be fundraising earlier in the day when he's in Cincinnati.

Presumably Greg Ballard or Susan Brooks would run unless Mitch Daniels found someone willing to run. Unless someone belonging to either the Lugar-Ballard faction or Daniels faction ran, I think Gregg would beat the "emergency" nominee.
