What about Trump's campaign thus far makes that surprising in the least?

Please pick Ernst, Trump. We need the Republican ticket to be even more moronic.

Confirmation here that Corker is being vetted.  He’s now submitted his vetting papers to the Trump campaign:

The New York Post says that Michael Flynn is being vetted:

Apparently Gingrich will be joining Trump tomorrow night at the Cincinnati rally. Hmmmmmmm

So Ernst seems like the one person left on the list who isn't sure if she'd take the job or not.  She hasn't yet said if she's interested enough to go through the vetting process.

Also, there had been talk about Trump announcing the pick this week, but sounds like it'll actually be next week.  Of course, if he's picking Pence, he has to announce it before next week Thursday, so that Pence has time to withdraw from the gubernatorial race.

Here's a column in the Indy Star arguing that Pence abandoning the gubernatorial race to run for VP would actually be good for the Indiana Republican Party:

Looks like the exact deadline for Pence to withdraw from the governor’s race is noon on the 15th:

NBC News says that the Trump VP options being most heavily promoted by Trump advisors in internal deliberations are Gingrich and Pence, though others (including, at the very least, Christie, Corker, and Ernst) remain in the mix.  Though whether Trump himself will go with any of the aforementioned choices is unknown:

I hope and pray he picks either Ernst or fallin.

1. Ernst
2. Fallin

Either would make me happy, the other people he seems to seriously be considering i don't think would help him in pretty much anyway. Please don't pick Christie, Gingrich, Corker, Sessions or Cotton.

Christie seems like an awful pick. He's not helping Trump in a solidly Democratic state in a solidly Democratic region.

As a Governor he doesn't bring any foreign policy or military experience to the ticket either.

And as a corrupt politician from a corrupt state he undermines Trump's whole Crooked Hillary, anti-establishment line.

Corker and Ernst are out, yeah. That cuts down the list considerably.

It's down to Gingrich, Pence, and maybe Fallin. Unless he decides to surprise us and pick Scott Brown.

Yesterday Trump was proud to introduce Corker at one of his campaign rallies.

Today Bob Corker says he's withdrawing from consideration for VP.

I wonder what went down?

I think that Trump making nicey-nice with Saddam was enough for Corker to say "deuces" to Trump

Probably the whole praise Saddam thing.  I bet Corker wishes he had one of those Fiorina trap door thingies to get out of there.

Corker is too short for a Trump VP anyway.

Is there any pathetic statement you aren't willing to pollute this forum with?

I think Corker doesn't want to join a losing ticket, he doesn't see running as VP as a good investment. However, if Trump manages to win, I bet he'd be willing to accept a cabinet post (likely Secretary of State).

Ernst is smart by bowing out too. She is young and popular, and likely has a bright political future in front of her. She also was just elected to the senate not even two years ago. Even though it may not be fair, I think she'd likely be compared to Sarah Palin. Ernst can stay in the Senate for awhile and could be a presidential candidate in her own right in the future, without having to associate herself with Trump.

There has been a development in the whole 'Bridgegate' thing...

This adds on to the whole issue over whether Christie is the best guy to help Trump make the case that Clinton is 'crooked'.  Of course Gingrich has his own ethics issues, if Trump is looking for someone squeaky clean he may have to look elsewhere.
