I'm surprised we don't hear more( or any really) buzz around Huckabee. Well known, ran for president twice without having a scandal derail his campaign, and has full heartedly backed Trump in recent days. Plus he at least used to be rather likable with his aw shucks persona. One could do worse.

I'd guess that even Trump draws the line at openly supporting the return of slavery.

why would a general with any self-respect join the ticket with a candidate who has actually uttered the words "I love war"?

When did Trump say that?

Hmmm... Trump/Pence might edge things back toward a 2012ish map and away from a realignment.  He would rally hesitant parts of the conservative base, but he would have plenty of issues with the populist indies and is quite anti-labor.

Yeah, this reeks of Manafort tamping Trump's eccentricity down in a *bad * way.

Not sure what the actual plan is here? Though if we're relitigating 2012 maybe they're hoping that Obama won only because he was literally the best candidate (in terms of rallying the troops and putting the work in) since JFK and had the best, most sophisticated campaign in history, and HRC will do worse?

Maybe they think "Trump is the candidate of hate" is already played out, so the RFRA negative on Pence is neutralized, and the prestige of a governorship and willingness to go along with the plan is the positive.  Seems like he's a pretty good speaker/debater and was highly thought of as a governor, I remember people talking about him as a potential candidate.

The anti-union laws were signed by Mitch Daniels, so Pence is safe on that front.

So how long until Pence's support for TPP becomes an issue?

Fallin says that she'd take the job...but so far, she's had no contact with the Trump campaign about being VP:

Not that the Indiana GOP is going to do this, because they're stupid, but I would love it if they replaced Pence on the gubernatorial ballot with former Indianapolis mayor Greg Ballard.

Imagine, an election with two good choices.

But while Greg Ballard would likely win over moderates, no one in the party with reasonable positions is going to make it to statewide ballot.

My guess: Indiana GOP keeps promoting the guy who hasn't even run in an election until this year (Holcomb).

Yes, but Gregg could use the rising crime in Indy as a bludgeon against Ballard, not to mention Ballard's breaking of his "I won't increase taxes" promise in 2007 and 2011.

LOL, Pence would likely get reelected to the governor’s chair but choses to run with the thin-skinned narcissist. Something that may end his career once they’re defeated in November.

Possibly, but Pence really has very little skin in the game and a lot of future upside if he is the VP candidate. If the ticket wins he is the heir apparent in 2024, if Trump does well, or the next POTUS if Trump screws up, and gets impeached. If the ticket loses, Pence will have a more prominent national presence and still a strong political position in IN. If they lose in a landslide, Pence can legitimately say that he didn't even vote for Trump (he endorsed Cruz) but was the moderating presence on the ticket.  He can then run for Senate or just get a highly paid job in the private sector.

The bigger question is whether a plain vanilla Pence really does anything for Trump? And would someone like Fallin or Blackburn, or even someone controversial like Gingrich, get him more traction with voters?

Costa says that Christie met with Culvahouse over the weekend, and "a Trump ally" says he's now the second most likely pick for Trump (behind Pence):
