“A senior Trump campaign source” says that the early favorites are Martinez, Haley, and Portman:

http://edition.cnn.com/2016/05/04/politics/donald-trump-vice-president-search/

The only problem with that is that, as the story notes, all three of them have ruled it out.  Martinez says she’s not even sure if she’ll vote for Trump, let alone agree to appear on the same stage as him:

Rick Scott says no:

Ernst dodges the question, and does it in a way that makes it sound like she's open to it:

Doubt it.  Trump said that he wants an insider.

Jon Huntsman is my favorite for the position. He definitely has softened up on Trump and remained neutral through the campaign.

I have trouble seeing Portman be picked as that'd probably toss a competitive senate race. Though the Ohio GOP does have a deep bench, I think whoever got picked to go up against Strickland with Trump at the top of the ticket, and lacking Portman's incumbency and vaguely moderate image, would have a hard row to hoe.

Trump should pick Bernie.  Make it an outsiders vs. insiders election.   He'll lose half the Republican party but he could get away with "it's not the policy that matters, it's that we're the only two politicians willing to take on a corrupt, rigged system."  All the Bernie Bros. would come over and he'd win a lot of angry moderates as well.  It would throw the election into total chaos.  Bernie is selfish enough that he might accept.  Anything for "the message", right?

I think there is one obvious choice for Donald Trump and he needs to do whatever it takes to convince her to take the spot and that is Susana Martinez.

She literally checks all of the boxes Trump would be looking for:

- Two term governor from New Mexico (Not in the senate or house)
- Political Experience
- Mexican Hispanic
- Female and only latina governor in the US history
- From the West Coast and popular; could put Colorado in Trumps win total and put New Mexico into play.
- Help somewhat with hispanic voters
- Ruins the left's argument he is anti-hispanic and anti-woman
 - Would be a pretty new face to the general election population who doesn't follow politics as closely as many of us do
- Popular with the right

Runner ups would be in no particular order:

- Kasich
- Rubio
- Sandoval

New Mexico isn't in the West Coast and Martinez has publicly spoken out against Trump. She doesn't want her name associated with him.

Can I just say that this has to be the most desperate plea for a spot on the VP short list that I've ever seen?  "I'd be honored if you'd call me."  Lol.

Hope it's gonna be Kasich. Although I don't like Marco that much, he would also be a strong running mate.

Oh god, the Trump/Webb speculation will start again.

Jim Webb will work great with Trump. However, would Republican voters warm up to a Democrat on the ticket? I believe it's legal for Trump to chose Webb as his running mate. It's just the word "Democrat" will be a killjoy for them.

Trump just gave an interview where he said that Rubio has been "very supportive, very good, and has said very nice things". He also said that they have had "very nice conversations."

Trump also clarified that Nikki Haley is not under consideration for VP.

Martinez also:

- called in drunk to the state police
- has corruption charges
- her current Secretary of State(the one who counts the votes) is facing impeachment

Rubio is a pretty embarrassing lightweight, so no.

Well, John McCain apparently did want to pick Joe Lieberman, but his advisers pressured him into choosing Palin.

A lot of delegates will be Cruz/party loyalists. I doubt they would approve a Democrat as VP.
