I think Clinton's best bet is a white guy with some blue collar cred.  The only reason this thing is close right now is because Trump is winning ~2/3rds of white men and ~3/4ths of white men without college degrees.  Sherrod Brown is the obvious choice, but Kasich appointing an R could be devastating to the progressive cause in a year when the senate could easily be tied and there's guaranteed to be at least one open SCOTUS seat.

How about Jon Tester?  He's younger than Clinton, has a working class (farming) background, overcame a disabling injury he sustained on the job, has beaten the odds twice in a McCain state, his seat is up in 2018 anyway and as long as he resigns in November/December it would be guaranteed that Bullock replaces him with another Dem.  What's not to like?

Name recognition, isn't progressive enough, not from a swing state, would be easier for him to hold the Senate seat than somebody else.

I don't think a swing-state is necessary. What matters is someone who Clinton can work with, ideally someone she can get along with, and someone who can tap into and soothe the irritated Sandernistas.

A guy on Chris Matthews' show just said that Bob Corker's aides ask journalists to ask him whether he'd be interested in being Trump's running mate.

When was the last time a VP choice delivered their home state for either party?

Joe Biden-2012 Tongue

In all seriousness its media perception- I even read that Kennedy's famous pick of LBJ in 1960 polling wise damaged him in Texas

Yes, because of course these people just wouldn't be qualified. Clearly the only reason to pick a minority or a woman would be to pander.

He's going all in on the >75% of white men strategy.  The scary part is I think it's working.  Clinton needs to pick a Biden type who can counter this.

Chris Murphy could work. Young, northeastern, white man, not moderate enough to anger Bernie supporters.

This is a pretty remarkable quote from that story:

Really?  Every single potential running mate on your list has "major problems"?  I'm not saying that's wrong, but it's not usually something that you'd expect someone in the campaign to publicly admit. Tongue

It's a bit of a Trump-22. The best VP picks for him are the ones that would say no to being VP.

All this searching could come to a close by picking Omarosa, who, given the tie to The Apprentice, would not provoke so many cries of pandering.

I can't tell if this is serious. But Trump needs to choose somebody with experience; he's already a tough pill to swallow for the GOP establishment.

Trump just said on CNN that he's actually likely to consider a female or minority VP.

Logically, it has to be true though. Consider, every potential Trump VP will either refuse to be on a ticket with Trump, or is willing to be on a ticket with Trump. If they refuse, that's a pretty major problem right their. And if they are willing to be on a ticket with Trump, it proves that they're either lizard-people or have had their brains replaced with tapioca, either of which is also a major problem.

Its a toss up now between Corker and Newt. Either would be great choices.

He's a very underrated option for either ticket.

I could see Trump picking Susan Collins, oddly enough.
