A figure of the past...though some might say that both presidential nominees are figures of the past too.

NBC names Thune (?), Corker, Shinebox and Scott as Trump's top prospects. Kaine/Warren/Brown for Hillary.

Those stories don't really seem to be based on anything though.  The Republican list in particular, they don't even put up the pretense of saying "according to people close to the campaign, we think...".  I don't think the people who wrote those stories are actually following the veepstakes as closely as we are.  They just seem to be pulling names out of thin air.

LOL Rick Scott. That would be a fraud/fraud ticket. Though I doubt he is being selected. It’ll be either Gingrich or Sessions. Fallin and Corker with outsider chances.

I gotta say, the day after Kaine's interview where he says he's so boring, Warren brought a lot of energy at her rally with Clinton, and the two look electric on stage. Hopefully her team notices.

Clinton concerned about picking Senators from Republican Gov states, so probably no Booker or Brown.

Of course Kaine's replacement would have to run to hold the seat in a special election in 2017 and there is no guarantee the Dems would hold the seat so there is a bit of risk with him too.  If Clinton wanted to go pure no risk, then it would have to be Vilsack. Former gov of IA and cabinet sec, he has experience and swing state bonus. And he grew up in Pennsylvania so bonus there plus he was an orphan, so interesting back story.

I did not like the line of attack that Warren used agaist Trump the other day. She called him someone who will crush you to get what he wants. But that is exactly why people are voting for him. They want a strong alpha male to run their country. A much more effective line of a attack is to portray him as an incompetent buffoon who has no idea what he is doing.

Though again, it's not clear to me that the Trump short listers have been contacted yet, and would even know if they're being vetted.

On this week's Keeping it 1600 podcast Maggie Haberman of the NYT said Newt has been told he is out, apparently for disloyalty to Trump when he spoke out against the Mexican judge comments.  Also said that things looked good for Kaine as the safe choice who has good relationship with Clinton.

Here is the podcast:

https://theringer.com/keepin-it-1600-podcast-politics-election-jon-favreau-dan-pfeiffer-220924af4c94#.sz1ouwrvr

The ~1:07:00 mark is when she's talking about the Trump VP race.  She mentions Christie, Corker, Cotton, Fallin, and Sessions as the likely short listers.
