I want Elizabeth Warren. Sherrod Brown would be good too.

Kaine could harm her campaign.

"almost losing" is another name for winning!

You can't spin someone who goes from this

to this

as a great candidate, especially when his opponent was supposed to be a joke.  That was a terrible result for Warner.

I'm not saying he is a great candidate, but he still survived a wave. And I would note that he was elected in a Democratic wave, so his winning margin wasn't entirely due to the campaign he ran, and probably had a lot more to do with Gilmore running an awful campaign.

It's hard to compare Kaine 2012 with Warner 2008. 2008 was the most lopsided result in Virginia in 20 years. At no point did Kaine poll above 52%, and that's what he got. I'm not saying it was an impressive win, but do you really expect Democrats to get 65% or anywhere close to that in Virginia?

In terms of actual polices, give me Kaine any day over Warner.

No, but Warner underperformed the preelection polls by 9 points.

Perhaps not, but I suppose I have the impression that there are higher expectations for Warner given his popularity in the state.  I'll take Ebsy's word on Gilmore being a mediocre candidate in a wave year, though.

I'm not sure if Warner pulled a Casey in 2014 and just didn't campaign, but he definitely performed well below expectations.

MY APOLOGIES. I thought that we were comparing 2008 Warner with 2012 Kaine, not 2014 Warner. My mistake.

You do realize that was 2014, when precisely nobody came out to vote, right?

In 2014, 2,184,473 people voted in the Senate election. In 2008, Warner received 2,369,327 votes, and in 2012, Kaine received 2,010,067. You can't compare 2014 with either 2008 or 2012.

I'm watching the live stream of the rally, and DWS is introducing Hillary. I really want to sit here booing at my iPad screen.

This rally screams "young and hip" so I'm wondering if the VP candidate plays well with that?

Hillary just tweeted this a few minutes ago

Monitoring the horrific situation in Munich. We stand with our friends in Germany as they work to bring those responsible to justice. -H

I don't think we'll be hearing any VP news today.
