Despite Carson's claims to the contrary, Trump says he definitely won't pick a Democrat as his running mate:

The question is, does this actually rule out Webb?

Third-hand word from the WHCD is that Castro and Brown are off of Clinton's shortlist.

My source also said Kaine was on the rise, but I'd take it all with a grain of salt. A third-hand source being what it is.

Kasich would never be Trump's VP. He's too interested in running again come 2020, when he'll be a relatively young (compared to this cycle's frontrunners) 67.

I read that Carson just “completed his task and made recommendations”; not that he was fired.

I guess these are the remaining six names (no particular order):

Marry Fallin
Rick Perry
Chris Christie
Newt Gingrich
Jan Brewer
Ted Cruz

Some dark horses, nobody has talked about yet: The Huck, Rick Santorum, Jeff Flake and Matt Mead. I think they could be under consideration as well.

Too many Governors. Trump has stated he wants someone who can navigate Congress.

Kasich won't even endorse Trump. Why on Earth would he accept the VP spot? (Especially since it's still possible Kasich runs again in 2020.)

He will get the same result in 2020 that he got in 2016 if he continues his silly selfish non support of the 2016 GOP candidate for president.

That may well be true, but it was always a ridiculous idea that Kasich would ever play second fiddle to a man he hates so much. I greatly dislike Kasich, but I give him props for sticking to his damn principles.

I think Ron Wyden or Al Franken would be good picks to unite he party, and both are pretty close to perfect in terms of countering Trump. They aren't exactly risky picks, either.

Al Franken isn't a risky pick?
No riskier than Trump.

Tim Ryan on the shortlist confuses the Hell out of me.

Thought: People are bullish on Kaine because McAuliffe can appoint. McAuliffe is toxic now, and whoever he appoints could easily go down '18 given 1: How close Warner's re-election was in '14 and 2: Their proximity to McAuliffe. I still think Kaine is the top prospect, but it's a wrinkle.

Is there anyway that Virginia could just go straight to a special w/o an appointment?

I'm sure it's a farce, but evidently there are whispers of Richard Cordray for Clinton's VP. Probably the same people who brought up Tim Ryan--Democrats trying to get early name ID for the gubernatorial race in '18.

Now I'm starting to wonder if it's really Perez.  He could be a good pick for Florida.

It shouldn't. It should be someone like former Indiana Rep. Tim Roemer. I don't know if Perez is ready for the Trump onslaught.
You sure pull things out of nowhere.

Kaine or Perez make sense. I think Vilsack is a head-fake. Both Kaine and Perez could address a heavily Latinx crowd in Miami with fluent Spanish
