New Mexico isn't in the West Coast and Martinez has publicly spoken out against Trump. She doesn't want her name associated with him.

A lot of delegates will be Cruz/party loyalists. I doubt they would approve a Democrat as VP.

FWIW, Gary Johnson named former MA Governor Bill Weld as his VP candidate today.

I may have ended up writing in Bill Weld in the 2006 NY Governor's race.

In any event, this is a choice that appears well-designed to appeal to, uh, me, and probably nobody else in the country.

Going for that Erc vote.

I believe Trump said his announcement would be during the RNC. He thinks it makes the event more exciting than doing it beforehand. I suspect Clinton will wait until after the RNC, possibly the day it concludes in order to step on any RNC bounce.

The Saturday after the RNC would be best, I think. Doing it on the last day is a bad idea because it would just get overshadowed by the convention and Friday's a bad day because it's Friday. People have a day to digest what happened, then Saturday comes along and Clinton can say "well that was a sh**tshow, here's Warren/Kaine/Castro/etc"

He's really itching to vote against Trump and make sure he's never President.

She didn't outright shoot it down when Chuck Todd asked her on Meet The Press, but she basically gave a politician's no if you know how to read between the lines.

There aren't many picks from Congress that Trump can choose that wouldn't compromise his "outsider" cred. Unless he chooses a random low profile Freedom Caucus member.

Yeah, if Warren were to resign on November 9th, the special election would be sometime around late February/March, right? Probably earlier if it looks like Clinton/Warren will win and Warren resigns earlier, but that's risky.

Put me on team Warren after seeing her latest speech. She is exactly what Hillary needs.

The one she just uploaded on Youtube? It was very good.

Warren for VP, Maura Healey for Senate. They even have the same haircut. Win/win.

What kind of opening sentence is "x hasn't been asked to be VP" - like, would someone seriously go around telling the media if they've been asked to be a running mate? Seems really pointless to include.

Reid seems to be fully on board the Warren train now.

Clinton says Warren is qualified to be VP, has more praise for her.

Warren on Maddow endorses Clinton and calls her a tough fighter, one we need. Says she hasn't been vetted or anything yet, but that's a pretty generic answer to anyone who is ever asked. I don't even think Clinton's campaign has a team to vet and pick a VP yet, to my knowledge anyway.

Rachel asks Warren if she believes she is qualified to assume the role of President if she were to be VP and anything happens. Warren replies with "yes I do."

It was a very confident one too.

I saw in her face that there was serious contemplation when she was being asked the question. She meant her answer.

Elizabeth Warren will be the first female Vice President this November. She is CLEARLY interested and her attacks against Donald Trump are very convincing. During this last interview, she is really talking Hillary up. She wouldn't be doing this if she didn't want the job. The Democrats will want to make a splash. People who aren't voting for Hillary because she's a woman are not going to change their minds if she picks a man as her VP. And the Democrats would be able to take back the Massachusetts senate seat which is really important right now. Clinton/Warren 2016

I imagine there are probably plenty on the fence who might otherwise vote Clinton at the last minute, but if she picks Warren would see her as playing identity politics and secure those votes for Trump. I personally think she has more to lose by picking Warren, given that she won't even pick up the Sanders crowd since Warren was already demonized after Massachusetts.

That's not necessarily true. My husband and sister-in-law aren't too hot on Clinton at all, but say picking Warren would cement them as solid Hillary votes. Anecdotal, but still.

Just re-watched the clip. In addition to her serious look of contemplation during the question and her stern "Yes I do", she gives a smirk and raises her eyebrows afterwards, almost a sign of protest against Rendell. Sends a signal that she wants it, and wants to show him wrong.

I really don't think they're even trying to hide it.

Well... no. Doesn't happen very often that any old senator gets invited to a candidate's house the morning after endorsing them on national TV and saying that they're qualified to take the job. I expect more meetings between them.

Yeah, the thing with how Warren will alienate people who aren't left-wing... she's similar to Sanders and his best demographic was independents, which (and my husband will be so happy with me saying this) Clinton really needs and is a bit weak with. I think that talking point is way overstated. Warren also doesn't have all the socialist baggage that Sanders has, and she's non-threatening. I mean, if you don't like the idea of two women on a Presidential ticket, then you're hopeless either way.
