Senator LePage would be the political equivalent of a dead baby joke: equal parts horrifying and hilarious.

Rumor apparently has it that King is considering going back to the Governorship for an 8-year finale of his political career, in which case this'll be an open seat. Republicans would have a real shot in that case...if they don't nominate this joker.

Trump had better name LePage his running mate; either LePage will go down with the ticket a la Palin, or he will become veep and effectively useless.

Charlie Summers, William Schneider, Steve Abbott, or Poliquin could win this seat if King changes his mind and runs for Governor. I think Eleanor Espling and Eric Brakey also stand good chances.

Obviously, King is safe if he runs for Senate.

He'll lose, King or otherwise.

LePage's interest dates back to last Novmeber at least.

Against King - no chances, if open - well, in 3-way race it could happen

lol LePage.

Then again, under-estimating his appeal with working class whites is what did Mike Michaud in in 2014, and it will be another mid-term year. So as much as I want to, I can't count him out, especially if Dems decide to contest King (not an impossible prospect considering his voting record is fairly moderate, if not slightly left of center).

If Democrats lose to this clown three times in a row, the Maine Democratic Party should just die.

King isn't retiring, he already announced he's running for reelection.

It's not unheard of for Senators to say they're not retiring and then retire. In fact, I believe King's predecessor, Olympia Snowe, did exactly that.

Yep. Her decision came literally last second and wasn't originally planned. Reid, Coats, and Mikulski also originally had plans if we're going by this year.
