I don't think such a party would go very far in Canada, given that Canadians aren't exactly hyper-nationalists and opposition to immigration is lower than other countries and and that it would be difficult for a party to work in both official regions.

My guess is it would do best in the Quebec City region, and maybe some pockets of Ontario where the Canadian Alliance and Reform parties did well.

Rob Ford was elected Mayor of Toronto. Just saying...

Immigration isn't ever going to be the same lightning rod in Canada as it is in America, largely because unlike the US, Canada's border with its economically struggling, high-crime, and lower human development neighbor is well contained...

Maple syrup can slow it down, also.

Yes, with high support in multicultural working class districts in the periphery, which voted for Justin Trudeau's Liberals overwhelmingly.

While the NDP is stronger in the core and the Conservatives stronger in the periphery (but more so in affluent suburbs than working class ones), the 416 generally votes the same way, heavily Liberal.

I'd argue that's not really a different phenomenon from Trump, just the Canadian 'flavour' of the right wing populism sweeping the globe. Since Canadian racial minorities are relatively well integrated and Canada's racial history is different from America's, they feel comfortable joining right wing populist movements in a way that say American Hispanics are not.

It would probably be less outrightly racist (wouldn't suggest banning Muslims), but not that much. If it's anything like Ford Nation, it would do really well in the 905... or anywhere really where the sight of a person on a bicycle is an open invitation to declare war. Tongue
