Who are some current US elected officials that would be considered Socail Democrats. All I can think of would be the few elected officials in the Vermont Progressive Party,  and maybe  Jerry Brown or  Elizabeth Warren.

Ron Dellums, potentially. (though he may have been to the left of Sanders)

Good question.  It's interesting to see a "liberal vs. social democrat" race in the Democratic Party.

It's often hard to tell because social democracy is tiny and integrated into American liberalism.

Russ Feingold perhaps, if he's elected to the Senate again (the late Paul Wellstone would have also fit in the social democratic camp).

I like Brown, but he's not a Social Democrat by any stretch.

Maybe Shumlin or Dayton could qualify, but I'm not sure.

Kshama Sawant isn't a social democrat, she's much farther to the left.

Al Franken is one, as is Klobuchar to some extent. Does De Blasio, as a super-progressive, qualify?

Sawant is a democratic socialist, not a social democrat.

What exactly is the difference between a social democrat and a regular liberal? The line always seemed kind of blurry to me.

"Liberal" in the US includes social democrats, but not all American liberals are social democrats.

Isn't she literally a Trotskyist?

She's a legitimately evil "Trotskyite socialist".
