Am genuinely how many people on the forum have had/got jobs that were politically related? As a forum no doubt we're in the upper levels of political obsession

I worked for a political consulting/ad making firm called Squier-Eskew in the 1988 cycle as a college student/intern and in the 1990 cycle as a paid toadie.  They were probably the dominant Democratic firm at the time would do 12-14 statewide campaigns in a cycle, plus other projects.  It was fun and exciting, but at the same time it was obvious that the stress level would be difficult to cope with if I continued to pursue such a path, so I chose more stable peaceful pursuits,  which is fortunate, because 1992 probably would have killed me.

Actual true story, one of the clients in 88 was Sen Frank Lautenberg (NJ), several versions of his campaign ads were sent to a 3rd party for final editing and then were sent to the Lautenberg campaign for final approval.  The 3rd party made a bit of an error, got tapes mixed up, and sent a porno tape to the campaign.  Nobody previewed this specific tape, so everybody in the room (thankfully not me) including  Sen Lautenberg  got to watch play get punched and the very wrong video come up, plus a couple of FF efforts to see if the ads were on tape somewhere.  Sen.  Lautenberg took the whole thing graciously (didn't fire the firm) and quipped "Somewhere out there is a very disappointed couple, wondering why I'm on their TV".

I briefly had a job with an environmental group that does political stuff, if that counts. Other than that, I've volunteered for some campaigns.

I'll have a job with the Minnehaha County Government this summer, but it's not really "political" since I'll just be recording data, and won't have to deal with the public.

I volunteered as an envelope stuffer for Senator Tim Johnson back in 2008.

Pros: You work with smart people, some research is quite interesting
Cons: You work with people who think they're smarter than they are, mediocre pay

I was an analyst, and a lot of the research work was similar to what they do in academia or government. The only difference is that certain insights may be more or less acceptable than others, depending on the think tank's ideology.

Interned on a major congressional race in 2012, was Deputy Campaign Manager for a mayoral race in 2013, and intern for a major consultant in Tallahassee. None of these actually count, of course.
