Porn addiction is a real issue for many men.

In the same way that something like video game addition is, and that is only if it prevents you from doing work, going to school, being healthy, etc.

Porn is not 'bad for society'. A world without porn is a world with more sexual violence.

No. It's a physical addiction. It can lead to extreme problems with actual relationships and physical intimacy. If someone spends ten years looking at porn and then has a girlfriend and has sex, it's like going from an IMAX theater to a flip-book. The dopamine levels in your brain have numbed your sensations.

No. Just no. It can happen, but it's clearly not the majority.

It's like saying that someone drinking wine is an alcoholic. That's an oversimplification.

If you look at excessive amounts of porn, it has drastic consequences on your sex life. The only way to full go back to a time before your porn addiction is to completely abstain from porn until the dopamine levels in your brain normalize. This is called a PMO reboot. Google it. It is a very real thing. Trust me.

Well there are some freedom parts of the bill: "women as objects and commodities for the viewer's use." It also says pornography "equates violence toward women and children with sex and pain with pleasure, which increases the demand for sex trafficking, prostitution, child sexual abuse images, and child pornography."

Yeah, that's actually surprisingly good. Kudos, Utah.

The prude brood strikes back! Cheesy Freedom move.

Are you afraid a woman who has seen porn will laugh at your anatomy?

A normal properly functioning person is not going to prefer to sit in a dark room looking at two or more strangers on a screen having sex vs having sex with someone they love.

Reaganfan, you should google "porn stars without makeup".  You should also read or watch some porn star interviews.  You should also watch some behind the scenes clips.  I thought this stuff was common knowledge.  Anyone that just takes porn at face value and thinks it is in any way reflective of even the porn stars lives probably also thinks Star Wars is a science documentary.

If you look at excessive amounts of porn, it has drastic consequences on your sex life. The only way to full go back to a time before your porn addiction is to completely abstain from porn until the dopamine levels in your brain normalize. This is called a PMO reboot. Google it. Well considering the gold standard diagnostic guidelines don't even contain a diagnosis for sexual addiction I don't know what source you are using.

I know it's fun to throw around fancy words like "dopamine" when discussing pop science on the internet but that shouldn't be mistaken for definitive published clinical results.

Anyway if you have a quote from a reputable source with a link we would be happy to evaluate what your are saying.  But in the absence of that I will stick with what the medical doctors are saying.  The diagnostic manual is on its fifth edition.  Who know what changes will be made in the sixth edition.  But we will have to wait till then.  Declaring things as fact and even worse legislating on them before all the evidence is in is a bad idea.  Although this piece of legislation looks pretty harmless and redundant.  It's the kind of fluff piece of legislation people pass in order to look busy instead of doing any actual work.

Well there are some freedom parts of the bill: "women as objects and commodities for the viewer's use." It also says pornography "equates violence toward women and children with sex and pain with pleasure, which increases the demand for sex trafficking, prostitution, child sexual abuse images, and child pornography."

Child porn is already illegal.  No politician can go wrong saying, "I'm against child porn."  Although I wish politicians would do real work vs saying, the sky is blue over and over again.

I also wonder why he didn't mention the porn that is violent and humiliating towards men?  I mean there is a ton more of that floating around legally than their is of illegal child porn.  There has been a bizarre uptick in that stuff.  As a man it doesn't bother me.  Just curious why there seems to have been a carve out for that stuff.  Is he okay with that stuff?

You can't fault him for trying; Utah was already #1 for online porn usage back in 2009.  It must be a terminal epidemic by now.

Yeah the OP's article mentioned that.  You would think that since porn is so widespread we would be seeing the ill effects throughout society like we did with smoking.  I haven't researched the effects of porn good or bad so I can't come to any conclusions either way.  But it is odd that people say porn is so bad and yet no one in this thread could post any objective evidence from a reputable source to support their assertions.

Is it proven that men watch more porn than women? I'm actually skeptical lol.

The fact that it's so obviously designed to appeal to men's libido and completely ignores women's is sufficient proof IMO.

I laughed very vocally in the cafeteria at college when I saw this headline. Knowing how much Utah loves porn made it hilarious. Background knowledge, man.

Porn prudes are out in force again I see.

Porn is just 'there'; what you do with it, and what you take from it is entirely up to you. If anything a distinct lack of social skills, coupled with being an introvert, can lead someone to an excessive reliance on porn for sexual stimulation while alone. This can then affect an individuals perception of the opposite/same sex from a sexual perspective which leads to being generally sh-tty at dates/personal relationships and sexual performance within those relationships.

However a person without said social skills would probably be equally as uncomfortable/awkward without porn being a factor at all.

As usual, it has to be someone or something elses fault that you can't navigate personal/sexual relationships, which leads to the blame game whether you're a sexually repressed social conservative or some angry 'meninist' who can't get laid.

The statistic that Utah is #1 in porn usage is specifically based on porn subscriptions, meaning that these people are so sheltered and repressed that they don't realize that's not how to get porn in the 21st century.

Bushie was a resident of Utah for a few months, incidentally.

Did you read Pornhub's article on the Presidential election? Way better analysis than 538, imo.

You can certainly abuse porn and I think people who frequently view/use it certainly stand the risk of having a harder time engaging in meaningful relationships and will struggle to have sex lives that are realistic, normal and healthy. That said, porn is not a "public health crisis."
