Sad that this seems to do absolutely nothing, huh? When will the Feds step in?

Seems reasonable. I don't support banning or restricting porn, but it's kind of bad for society (like many things that we don't restrict, like soda)

You can't fault him for trying; Utah was already #1 for online porn usage back in 2009.  It must be a terminal epidemic by now.

Yeah, banning stuff only makes it cooler.  Just means Utah will create a generation of super-hackers.

Well there are some freedom parts of the bill: "women as objects and commodities for the viewer's use." It also says pornography "equates violence toward women and children with sex and pain with pleasure, which increases the demand for sex trafficking, prostitution, child sexual abuse images, and child pornography."

Yeah, that's actually surprisingly good. Kudos, Utah.

If it was bad for society, we would have a public health crisis on our hands, as most men, and many women consume porn. It's probably a net positive on society, as it serves as an outlet for would-be rapists and sex criminals.

A bit cringe worthy, but it seems pretty harmless. It's not like they aer actually trying to ban porn.

Toothless bill. It's just a resolution. I also doubt much porn is produced in Utah (except maybe homemade porn).

Hi, speaking as a resident of the state, while I see the bill's good intentions, it's really bad in the optics, considering how most people already see Mormons (and thus Utahns) as ultra-conservative weirdos. This doesn't help, and since it's a resolution, it's effectively useless in any case.

What evidence do you have of this? It's outrageous to think that there are would-be rapists out there being "contained" by pornography.

I actually sort of support this.

The only thing that should contain would-be rapists is jails.

Also rapists care a lot more about the power and control than the sex.

Porn addiction is a real issue for many men.

In the same way that something like video game addition is, and that is only if it prevents you from doing work, going to school, being healthy, etc.

Porn is not 'bad for society'. A world without porn is a world with more sexual violence.

No. It's a physical addiction. It can lead to extreme problems with actual relationships and physical intimacy. If someone spends ten years looking at porn and then has a girlfriend and has sex, it's like going from an IMAX theater to a flip-book. The dopamine levels in your brain have numbed your sensations.

No. Just no. It can happen, but it's clearly not the majority.

It's like saying that someone drinking wine is an alcoholic. That's an oversimplification.
