Bush's (official) lead in the Buckeye State was exactly 118,601 votes. Let's say that 118,602 votes for Kerry get found somewhere in, say, an abandoned warehouse somewhere in Cleveland and all of them are valid. Let's say all this happens TOMORROW. Does the Ohio SoS change the results and then recall its electors and hence the election?

Well I love making doomesday scenarios surrounding elections...just look elsewhere on this board! Grin

Nothing, I'd imagine.  The electors' votes have already been cast and Bush has been reinaugurated.  They'd probably just say "oops".

Does Bush get thrown out of office in that case and Kerry takes over? Could you imagine the chaos if that happened? MWHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

At this point, I don't really think it'd be a good idea, as it would make the Democrats look really bad.  I'd prefer to focus on 2008 than trying to see how we can still win 2004. Tongue

Ken Blackwell loses his job, and that's about it.

Hopefully the incompetents that forgot to count the votes would be thrown into Lake Erie. Democrats would piss and moan. I'd laugh.

Scooby Doo ending:

The Ohio Secretary of State is really (dramatic pause while mask is pulled off) Dean Logan!

Bush stays in office but he's crippled dramatically.

We hear horror stories for years about how Republicans intentionally hid those 118,000 votes.

Ken Blackwell is literally tarred and feathered by the Democratic Underground.

Well, maybe not the last one.

We'd still have President Bush, but the Republicans would have to nominate a MAJOR outsider if they wanted any chance of winning in 2008.

Midterms would be massive for the Democrats. They'd win half the seats in Utah.

Also, the investigation would be huge on this. Of course, depending on which party launched the conspiracy, the other party would dominate them the next time around.

Nothing.  It's just like how state-wide recounts found that Gore won in Florida.  And honestly, nothing should happen because it just isn't healthy to change presidents at this point in the game.

Kerry would get a boost for his '08 campaign, but that's about it.  And we'd take both houses of Congress in '06.

Nothing would happen; the election has been certified.

Furthermore, there would be no way to ensure that the ballots are all valid. The chain of custody would not be discernable, so no reasonable judge would permit them to be part of the official count.

I think that there would be two possibilities.

First, it was honest mistake.  I doubt if there would be a serious effort to remove Bush.  Ford, who got to the presidency without election, wasn't crippled, so I would think Bush would continue onward.

Second, it wasn't honest.  Bush and Cheney would probably be pressured to resign, even if they were not involved, possibly under the threat of impeachment.
