Breaking with party orthodoxy on gay & transgender issues is a smart move politically. The tax thing probably is not. Trump will lose more conservatives than he could possibly make up with liberals or moderates.

Not really. The GOP hurts itself way too much by its tax position, and they are often out of step with their base. If anything, i'd suggest the opposite - the trans issue could be riskier than endorsing tax rises.

This is true. Just look at the reactions of Classic Conservative and ExtremistRepublican. They're more offended by this than they would be with him sending hedge fund executives to the guillotine.

Because they're EXTREME

I've been saying it for months... Donald Trump is not one of us. How could he make it any more obvious?

BTW: I don't care about the bathroom issue.

How's Hillary's "we suck less" campaign going to even work against this?

A plurality - near majority - of Republicans say the wealthy and corporations pay too few taxes with barely double digits say too much. It is you who is out of line with the party. Even Donald Trump would do well to suggest a small minimum wage increase (and say, "Oh, Hillary changed her stance there too. Even Bernie called her out for it! Remember!)

The corporate media must be apoplectic that there's finally a candidate who cares more about stopping their gravy train than trans-bathrooms.

I do agree with raising taxes on the wealthy. They have the most influence in government so it only makes sense they pay the most.

Hillary had better up her game, because I'm getting more and more tempted by Trump every day.

Better in what way? I'm pretty sure Clinton will be proposing higher taxes on the rich than Trump. And I expect Trump to go back and forth on this issue.

Agreed. My least hated GOP candidate has gone from Kasich > Trump > Cruz to Trump > Kasich >> .... >> Cruz

Yeah, Trump definitely won't get my vote now.

Neither Trump, nor any other candidate was never going to get your vote because you don't have one.

Correct. If the Trump campaign has proven anything, it's that rank and file Republicans are not Chicago School ideologues.

62% of Republican primary voters have voted for a doctrinaire conservative. Many of those voters will not vote for Donald Trump because he's not conservative enough (in a traditional sense). Trump can not possibly make up the difference by appealing to liberals. The transgender position is smart because it neutralizes a Democratic attack line, not because it's winning over any one.

Now only if Trump can change views on Muslims and Immigrants than I can possibly vote for him

Of course he can. I have been telling you all along that those weren't his views. He is a New York liberal with protectionist economic views.

At least this is a step in the right direction. Trump is going to have a lot of baggage with the comments about immigrants and Muslims going into the general.

I disagree. He's looking to grab the disaffected Bernie voters who can't stand Hillary. And thinking conservatives understand that the position makes some sense.

Pho, of course, is 100 percent correct here. He may even lose enough conservatives to lose the nomination outright. Pivotting to the GE and losing because he thought he'd won. Wow.

Not if he's looking at his polling among his base. It's a polarizing issue that he's on the wrong side of. Just another example of bad advice that he's getting from his campaign.

I'm not sure backing the anti-transgender bill will help him in the general

If the base stays home, he loses. Simple as that. Why would the base come out to vote for someone who's out of step with their values?

Or are you going to be like Trump's campaign and assume that NY is now a tossup battleground state?
