And one of the greatest musicians of our time.  Not my style, but much respect.

Not really a fan, but yeah, sad to see him go so young. I don't have to enjoy his music to recognize that he was among one of the greatest artists of a generation.

Sad news. Very sad. This reminds me of Michael Jackson and Robin Williams. The media will be covering this for the rest of the week. Some commentators will very upset (Bill O'Reilly, Michael Savage) for not discussing more important things like ISIS, etc, cultural decline.

Unlike Bowie or MJ this one is extremely bothering me.

Prince was one of my hero's and helped get me through high school. Along with Iggy Pop his music helped me overcome the ignorance of my high school and discover my true self.  I learned it was okay to be unique and weird from him and I will always be in amazement of his talents.

Prince was a talented musician and was never afraid to not be himself that inspired me a ton.  That's when someone is a true legend in my book.

RIP

I never really appreciated Prince's talent until 2013 when I began to listen to a lot of his music courtesy of American Top 40 replays from the 1980's on Saturday mornings on one of the local radio stations.

Truly a great talent and probably one of the top five guitarists of all time.

Prince was born the day after me in the same year and went to high school less than 15 miles away from me. I don't think our paths ever crossed, though we might have been at a high school basketball game at the same time. As a side note, both our high schools closed within a year of each other in the early '80s. It does give me a sense of perspective.

Truly touching. Genuinely class move, Twin Cities. Smiley

Meh. Fish gotta swim, birds gotta fly, curmudgeons need to bitch about the world going to hell in a handbasket. Roll Eyes

Um, there's one noteworthy poster whose take on this I'd really like to hear (or maybe I won't). Tongue

As someone who is conscious of the '80s, this is awful news. Prince was awesome. RIP Sad

Raspberry Beret, Purple Rain, etc., I always like when his stuff comes on while I'm in the car. I pretty much just play '80s music these days with the soft rock and country (with few exceptions) largely being garbage.

Well you all can guess my list of greatest musical talents to come out of Minneapolis would be rather unique. But most important here, yeah no question. Like I said he's the whole reason why First Avenue is the prominent iconic place that it is. Every band I've seen play there has talked about how exciting it is to actually be in this place and playing there, and that definitely played a big role in the development of the later scene, and setting the stage for Husker Du and the Replacements and all that.

By the way, First Avenue actually held an all night dance party last night until 7AM (getting a special exemption from the city to stay open that late) in his memory after Mumford & Sons played, and will do the same tonight and Saturday. This is how many people showed up:
