Upworthy used to be better, but they've slid downhill a bit, especially after Sara Critchfield left. Vox however has only improved lately. They're now one of my three most read sites at work, the other two being the AV Club and TV Tropes.
Also Vox is now better at not putting spoilers in their titles, which Upworthy used to do all the time and now have surprisingly moved away from.
