Whether it's "delusional" or not, isn't it a good thing to try and expand the map? Even if it is futile in the end?

Of course it's not delusional to try and expand the map, but it's delusional to invest resources in states you have no chance of flipping. What would people be thinking of the Democratic nominee if they said "We will win Alabama this November and are investing there already"?

I would be nervous. Seriously. As a Republican, I get nervous if the opposite party is rallying in GOP territory. Trump has this unique appeal to many people that even I don't quite understand.

Hillary is polling better in UT, AZ & MO than Trump is in CT & IL.

If I were a Republican at this point I would be resigned to Trump losing in November, hope he doesn't do too much down-ticket damage, and already be figuring out how to pick up the pieces for the 2018 midterms.

I almost think a Trump victory would be worse for Republicans because of the amount of damage that man will do to the reputation of the party and the nation as a whole.  A dissolution of the GOP is already a possibility.  Trump in the White House may make it a probability.

If he touches the prolife plank of the GOP platform, the party will be destroyed. You can't win by being Dem Lite, and if Trump pursues that goal in his quixotic desire to win over blue states, he's going to get crushed.

He has a path to win that I already outlined. He's either receiving bad advice, or sincerely believes that stabbing prolifers in the back is the way to victory.

Never trusted him, believed he'd do this the instant he thought he didn't need prolifers anymore. He's in for a real surprise if he thinks they are gonna forgive him... ever.

The GOP used to have a more moderate position on abortion pre-1980.

Trump would have to run well over 60% downstate in Illinois to win it. Not happening.

Or he could get into the upper fifties downstate and run up margins in suburbs like Palatine and Tinley Park. He would be very fortunate to avoid losing either of those, let alone run up the types of margins there that Bruce Rauner did. Also not happening.

The parties have changed, though. Pro-life is important to factions of the Republican party and going sideways on that issue will cost them a lot of votes. They can't really afford to continue splintering their coalition like that - At least not at this current time.

Exactly. And Trump's pivot isn't going to draw him any voters.

Trump hasn't pivoted. He's just distancing himself from the Akin wing.

Unlike Romney, Romney never touched the platform. Trump's pivoted, although I agree, he's always held these positions.

I see a Hillaryslide in November if Trump wins.

It is possible. If Democrats have poor turnout, Illinois could be in play.

What he said.

If you don't think Oklahoma can vote D, then stop proposing that states like IL will go R, please. This is nuts.

This is obviously bluster aimed directly at the crowd at this weekends RNC meeting. Cruz and Kasich are arguing that Trump is a GE disaster in the waiting. Team Trump is trying to counter that narrative, in essense admitting that maybe those usual battleground states with lots of Latinos wont vote Trump, but he is going to put others into play, so don't worry.   Will they buy it?

LOL

Trump is definitely putting states into play, but not the blue states, but his own red ones

Georgia, Arizona, Texas and even Utah are swing states in a Clinton-Trump matchup. Aside from PA which looks like an oddball circumstance (but will be fools gold again for the GOP), the Big Blue Wall is impenetrable for Trump

When Bill Clinton co-opted much of the moderate Republican agenda (welfare reform, anti-crime, free trade), the two parties became so similar that the Republicans needed social wedge issues like abortion to set themselves apart.  You could still be a pro-life Democrat, but you could NOT be a pro-choice Republican.

I guess the Trump campaign has added another state today to their map of states that will be in play....

His internal polling must be telling him something.  Grim news.  Trump would be a disaster.  If only Hillary were more likable, then maybe we could prevent the onset of WWIII.  I truly hope she can prevent him from reaching the Oval Office.

I'll put them Lean Trump for now.

Ted Bessell's map can't be right. It has UT going Trump.
