Current results, in the form of infobox.

Since Dean and Chafee haven't announced their running mates yet, I threw in Kerry and Warner.

The running mates will be much more... exciting.... than this. Just you wait.

Senator Warner endorses Lincoln Chafee!

We thought nobody would do it.... We thought everyone would fall in line. But lo and behold, a GOP senator has endorsed Libertarian nominee Lincoln Chafee. John Warner of Virginia broke the barrier today, and was met with mixed reviews. More at 7.

Tenet: Hello, who is this?

[]: Hello, Director Tenet. I'd like to inform you that it's been leaked. The Post knows.

Tenet: Wha- wha- whAT!? WHO THE HELL ARE YOU?

[]: Nevermind that right now. The press knows about the whole thing - the invasion, the coverup, all of it. They're even implicating Bush

Tenet: And what sources do you have, Sir?

[]: Look, it doesn't matter right now. All I'm saying is - *goes quiet*

Tenet: Hello?

[]: I can't stay. All I'm saying is you're in big trouble and if you're a smart man you should resign as soon as possible.

Tenet: Holy hell...

Yes, I know that Tenet resigned anyway on July 11. But I'm going to use my creative license to twist the facts a little. Comments welcome!

2004 DNC

We are gathered here today to celebrate our nominee, Governor Howard Dean of Vermont! Dean impressively won nearly 55% of the votes on his way to the nomination. Over these next few days we're going to set in motion his general election campaign!

Delegates:

HOWARD DEAN 3661
Wesley Clark 403
John Kerry 145
John Edwards 87
Dick Gephardt 5
Other 21

"We're gonna win this election, but we will need your help!"'

KEYNOTE SPEAKER OBAMA DELIVERS MEMORABLE SPEECH

The Vice Presidential Selection

Dean: My campaign and I have thought very hard on this issue. One person will have to accompany me in the White House and on the campaign trail. They have to be qualified, agreeable, balancing, and willing. Based on these factors we've nearly looked at every Democratic officeholder, and we've arrived at Senate Minority Leader and Former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, of South Dakota. Delegates, I ask you to vote for Tom, he is the best person for this job.

Thank you so much! Let me tell you, I am honored to be on this ticket. I am honored that my colleague, Mr. Dean, has been willing to let me take this job. If you had told me 30 years ago, as a young man in the Air Force, that I'd one day be a party's nominee for Vice President, I'd have thought you were crazy. I've been lucky to work with Howard for the past few days, and in the past, and I must tell you, he's very qualified to be president!

I just want to make sure everyone still wants this around - I'd be fine with ending this or at least suspending it and focusing on Takeover of the Nerds full time.

After a long wait, here I go again!

FBI DIRECTOR TENET RESIGNS

On an interview with CNN, Vice President Cheney received a normal question about Iraq. Instead of responding with vague truisms, the VP said the following:

"You see, the media never gives us credit with how hard we try. It's not easy to run a military, and I trust in our soldiers that we can make Iraq better. Once we get rid of the Muslim government and that dirty Muslim Hussein, we can stabilize all them in that region and give the Middle East a real American awakening. Like we did with the Japs and the Koreans."

Many were offput by the VPs blunt racism and Cheney later offered an apology.

2004 Presidential Poll:

Howard Dean/Tom Daschle: 48%
George Bush/Dick Cheney: 31%
Lincoln Chafee: 13%

Gillespie: *pacing* No, no, no, you don't understand how bad this is! Especially if it's true what they're saying about Tenet. We've got to stop this! 17 behind a crazy like Dean! It's a death wish. What are we gonna do....

RNC CHAIRMAN GILLESPIE: "FATHOMABLE" THAT BUSH WON'T BE THE NOMINEE

President George W Bush has come under a lot of fire recently. With the RNC under a week away, we talked to RNC Chair Ed Gillespie to ask if he'd consider "overthrowing" Bush to nominate someone else.

Gillespie: I think right now, Mr. Bush's approval is not very high. Now, I don't think anything will happen, but I do believe that it's... fathomable... that somebody else gets nominated. If Mr. Bush is okay with it, we'll definitely consider it, but there's always the possibility that he becomes popular again...

Do you think George Bush should be the republican nominee?
Yes 38%
No 41%

General Election Matchups
Howard Dean 51%
George Bush 30%
Lincoln Chafee 7%

Howard Dean 58%
Lincoln Chafee 25%

Howard Dean 48%
Dick Cheney 33%
Lincoln Chafee 10%

Howard Dean 46%
John McCain 37%
Lincoln Chafee 5%

Howard Dean 45%
Generic R 41%
Lincoln Chafee 4%

Romney would've been interesting, but unlikely; one-term, only recently pro-life Governor.

He was opposed to Bush, as a moderate (in this universe), and he put himself forward as a compromise candidate.

GINGRICH CHOOSES PATAKI FOR VEEP

The news surrounding the election in early September was not lacking. After George Bush's withdrawal from the race, and the subsequent nomination of Newt Gingrich, Bush released an announcement saying he'd "serve his fullest until January 20th" and "hoped he'd leave the office for Gingrich." Then, more reports about Iraq surfaced, with Bush's approval rating hovering in the mid-to-high 20s. Lincoln Chafee also finally unveiled his VP choice, it being Rep. Ron Paul

RCP Polling Average - Pre-Debate
Dean/Daschle 43.6%
Gingrich/Pataki 31.2%
Chafee/Paul 16.5%

Chafee's polling surge weaseled him into the presidential debates, where he "dismantled" Gingrich. Gingrich complained afterwards that "[Dean and Chafee] were teaming up on [him]." At the VP Debate, Tom Daschle seemed on a higher plane of discussion than both other candidates. The debates did nothing to help Gingrich, and boosted Dean quite a bit.

South Dakota Senator and Vice Presidential candidate Tom Daschle at VP Debate

RCP Polling Average - Post-Debate
Dean/Daschle 47.1%
Gingrich/Pataki 27.2%
Chafee/Paul 18.8%

Frankly, Gingrich/Pataki is an amazing ticket. I'm perfectly fine with either of the two main tickets. If it was possible, I'd like a Dean/Pataki administration best if it goes to Congress.
