I meant they'd get Maryland's Senators.

Oh ok, fair enough Tongue

I still think that idea shortchanges DC residents for no good reason other than partisan politics. They should get their own Rep & Senators who respond specifically to their needs. After all, if they don't deserve that, then why does Wyoming and Vermont?

^It's a blue wall until it isn't. Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, ME-02 and New Hampshire (unfortunately) would be heavily contested by the GOP in this scenario. It would be difficult for them to win without VA, but it's certainly not impossible. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they won without VA in 2016.

I'd be happy to have DC be part of Maryland. Smiley
The Democratic Party would lose 2 electoral college votes from its firewall.

I'd be willing to make that sacrifice to get the people of DC a voting House member and 2 Senators.

Isn't it a sacrifice the people of DC would have to make, not you?

Fair enough. I think Wisconsin could possibly be ripe for the picking at some point, so that could substitute. Seeing as Democrats would no longer have to contest VA, they could divert that money to defend other states though.

When I say "cripple", I'm a little more sympathetic towards Democrats because I see it as Republicans having to pick off states that they haven't won in a long time, with the added bonus of Democrats having extra resources to exploit Florida's burgeoning Hispanic pro-Democratic eligible voter population.

So not impossible, but they start from a position of presumptive loser imo.

The way that Dax said it implied that Making DC part of Maryland would hurt the Democratic party . As A Democrat, I'm ok with that.
