http://kxan.com/2016/04/22/trump-hitler-among-nominations-to-rename-robert-e-lee-elementary/

I suppose this is part of the continued anti-confederate fallout that has been developing over the past year or so, but still pretty funny.

Got to love how some of the suggestions were clearly submitted by people who are salty about Robert E. Lee being removed from the name.

I went to Robert E. Lee Elementary for a few months in 4th grade because the elementary school I went to was full of deadly mold so they had to evacuate us for the rest of the school year while they cleaned it out. True story.

Robert E. Lee is probably the only Confederate figure I'm willing to defend. Now, had this been Stonewall Jackson or Jefferson Davis, I would've been fine with them removing the name.

I've always been disappointed that there's actually never been a Roosevelt Franklin elementary school.

Robert E. Lee was the greatest American general in history and deserves much more respect than he's given these days. Instead of whitewashing history into what makes people feel good, history should be preserved in a fair, even-handed way.

How about rename it to Jefferson Davis Elementary School?  That would be a great blow to the PC crowd. Smiley

It's a real shame that submissions are closed. Otherwise, we might have The OC School of Political Analysis.

Dwight Eisenhower, George Washington,  , Winfield Scott were the greatest. He wasnt even the best in that war the only reason he succeeded early in the war was because the Union Army had very incompetent generals, once he faced a good general Ulysses S Grant the confederacy got totally destroyed .

I like 'Vladimir Ilyich Lenin Elementary School' and 'Kim Il-Sung High School'.

Just keep the damn name 'Robert E. Lee Elementary School'.

But why should it be called a high school when it's an elementary school?

Of course, we could call it Idiocaracy Elementary for an extra dose of irony.

Rename it to "Abraham Lincoln Elementary School" or "Frederick Douglass Elementary School". I love the smell of neo-Confederate tears.

Or even the "William T. Sherman Elementary School", with a burning Confederate flag out front.

Either that or keep it as it is.  While Lee was no marble saint, he was the best general of that war.

However, contrary to general opinion, I'm glad he sided with the South.  If he hadn't, the Confederacy would have collapsed in 1862, the South would have been readmitted without emancipation, let alone reconstruction, and there would have been decades of guerrilla warfare in the South, quite possibly leading to a Second Civil War.  Sometimes a long bitter war is what is needed to clear the air, and that is exactly what the American Civil War was.
