It's surprisingly not in most places. Only the red states ban it:

Honestly, I don't think there is any logically consistent reason to ban it while allowing meat from other animals to be eaten.

It's not like we write laws to be logically consistent. That said, I'd be hesitant to ban it anyway.

No, we don't. But I would like it to be that way. Tongue

no

Cruelty against mammals (and maybe some birds and larger reptiles) should be against the law, but you should be able to eat whatever you want.  Horse, dog, baby bunnies, monkey...maybe draw the line at apes.

It's illegal in almost all developed countries to eat marine mammals, as well as sharks.

Mainly because of the danger involved in getting it, as well as the fact that marine ecosystems can be affected in ways we can't detect/see/realize/fix. Additionally, most of the ocean cannot legally be regulated by a country.

imo the line should be drawn at self-awareness (great apes, dolphins, corvids, elephants, pigs)

I love dogs and cats and the very thought of eating their meat is revolting to me. In our culture, they are not considered a food source. I'd never, ever support eating them.

I don't eat pork for this very reason, while eating a dolphin, given their brain capacity, is just like eating a fellow adult human being for me. And eating a great ape is like eating a child.

I just realized one thing all the banning states have in common is relatively high populations from Asian countries where such meat is common. Makes sense, other states see no need.

Yes even Georgia and Virginia. Both have high Korean populations in NOVA and Gwinnett County. Surprising then that New Jersey is NOT one. Or Washington.

It's illegal in almost all developed countries to eat marine mammals, as well as sharks.

But that's more of a conservation issue related to killing them in the first place, like bans on ivory or rhino horns. Cats and dogs aren't in danger of extinction.

Not the same - not even close.  Anyway, I will always love my bacon and frankly, I don't like the precedent banning dog/cat meat might set.

Yes, 'baconnaise' counts as a bacon substitute.

It may not be banned, but I highly doubt, say, a factory farm of cats would last very long.

I don't think the production of meats from companion animals should be encouraged - it's two spheres that should not crossover.

Looking at this list and remembering that one time I tried vegetarian bacon.  Yuck! Sad   Even worse than vegetarian burgers, which is a pretty tough feat to accomplish IMO.
