Some of these may seem improbable choices, but Trump does want and need someone with political experience.

I could easily see a Trump/Sessions or Trump/Kasich ticket honestly.

None of the above.  Jon Huntsman.

Kasich by far. DC leadership, executive experience, delegates that would push Trump over 50%. A voice of reason.

Martinez would be great too, but betting she'd say no.

Well, I can say that Chris Christie, Richard Shelby,  Jeff Sessions, and Paul LePage are all bad picks.

What about Mary Fallin?  The Lt. Governor of SC suggested her, and I think she'd be an interesting choice.  She's fairly articulate, and actually seems to be informed about the issues, unlike a certain former female VP nominee.

Chris Christie or WI: Scott Brown.

If he goes after her African American votes using fair trade, like one can do on the Campaign Trail, I'd say Tim Scott or Cory Gardner would provide good opportunities.

He needs a respected elder statesman type with ideological compatibility. Sessions is a good fit.

Christie is the most politically compatible, but Kasich would probably check the most boxes for the kind of person he needs.

I say pick Christie and let him take over the tough-talking, insult-slinging braggadocio style that got Trump where he is, while Trump etch-a-sketches towards presidential.

I don't think Kasich wants this, if he did he would not have done what he just did.

Christie makes sense in some ways since he is experienced but if you are looking at the electoral map he makes absolutely none.

Kasich. I would write in Omarosa if I could.

Guys, Shelby is 81 years old. He's not going to be on the ticket.

Baker is pro-choice, which is an automatic no-go for the Republican ticket. Hogan's stance on the issue is not so clear.

A vice presidential nominees does not really deliver their home states. I can think of just two modern examples when you could say that about a VP candidate (LBJ in 1960, Muskie in 1968). Agnew failed to carry Maryland for Nixon in 1968, Bentsen Texas for Dukakis in 1988, Ferraro and Kemp New York in 1984 and 1996 respectively, and Ryan Wisconsin the last time (though in the last three cases we must remember Congressmen lacks a statewide clout). One could say Mondale, Bush, Lieberman, Biden or Palin did carry their home states, but those would go to the ticket anyway. Bob Graham could put Gore over the top in Florida. Otherwise, we're seriously underestimating the VP nominee effect.

I think Nixon might have said it best: "the VP candidate can't help the presidential nominee, but he can not hurt the ticket."

Agreed. Besides, I think Christie would be better placed as AG.

Kasich is a rare example of an LBJ type pick that could actually help at the convention and help deliver Ohio. As a resident, I can legit say he is very well liked throughout the state. He actually would be a general election candidate who would make his homestate go from battleground to safe Kasich. I think he would have a positive effect.

I like the Tim Scott, idea, to be honest. I am all for reaching out to African Americans with solutions that could improve their situation in society. Progress doesn't have to always be liberal.

John Thune - Yesterday's Man; has a very noughties air about him.
Marco Rubio - The result of his home state's primary ended any hopes of him being on the ticket.
Ted Cruz - No way will he be no. 2 to anyone.
Chris Christie - Possibly, but TRUMP may want to have a less, well, TRUMP-esque figure on the ticket.
Scott Walker - Zzzzz...oh yeah, he ran for president briefly right?
Richard Shelby - He's about 132 years old, right?
Jeff Sessions - He looks older than Shelby but is a lot younger...wouldn't bring much to the ticket though.
Susana Martinez - Would be a good choice for TRUMP, but she probably wouldn't want to be it.
Nikki Haley - She gave the SOTU response; anyone who gives that is politically dead soon after.
Paul LePage - See Christie.
Bill Haslam - Bizarre example of a 'moderate' Southern Republican. Too much of a nonentity to be on the national ticket.
Charlie Baker - Part of the NeverTrump nonsense so no.
Larry Hogan - Has had health problems etc.
John Kasich - Probably the favorite...but his current antics may be damaging his chances.

Sessions, to me, would be the best pick, in that he appears to have genuine enthusiasm for Trump and is in agreement with him on immigration, one of his signature issues.

She certainly kills You-Know-Who in the field of experience.

EDIT: I agree with others that Christie's a better pick for AG.

Martinez because believe it or not if she is nominated it might actually help him with hispanics. Or he could pick anyone from the freedom caucus to bring on board some of Cruz people.

You know that Martinez despises Trump?

Agreed.  Not only does he have the credentials for the job, but he has a proven track record of shutting down ports of entry Smiley.

He would be the worst possible choice for VP.  Adding a big, brash Jersey guy to a Trump ticket would pretty much spell certain doom.

Agree. Kasich would not accept ; who would want to destroy their reputation by attaching yourself to a nutjob like Little-Hands-Drumpf-Fuhrer.
It would have to be someone who is already wacky, and in politics like Sessions.
