On the last day of the primaries, both New jersey and California vote, two states where Trump is now leading by decisive margins and both states are winner-take-all states.

California isn't winner-take-all.

California 3 10 159 172 0 172 Primary (closed) Winner-take-all Winner-take-all Jun 7 Slate Jun 7 Slate N/A

I don't know what that's supposed to mean, but it's not winner-take-all.

Well, Trump has accomplished the first of the three requisite steps in winning the nomination and he did so decisively last night. He took over 50% of the vote in all five states, losing only six counties in Connecticut and a single county in Rhode Island. Being that Trump crossed the 50% vote threshold in Connecticut, he won all of that state's delegates as well.

Trump took every county in the winner-take-all states of Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware. Every county! That is a resounding victory for Trump.

It looks all but over to me. He now needs to go win Indiana on May 3rd, which is the biggest challenge remaining for him, but after that it will all come down to the winner-take-all votes in California and New Jersey on the 7th of June for the nomination. I can't see enough of the reserved Penn. delegates breaking from Trump after he won every county in the entire state last night.

I would score Trump as 95%+ to be the nominee of the party at this point.

Are you content with Trump as the nominee of the party?

You keep saying California is winner-take-all but it's not.

It is still a function of how many CDs he wins in IN and CA, but now his target seems very reachable.  The stop Trump and Cruz/Kasich forces need to win IN and really need to nail it in their targetting of districts in CA.  Right now I think the most likely scenario is Trump winning first ballot but needing unpledged to do it

Unfortunately, at least I can vote for Hillary.....did I just say that? Made me a little sick to my stomach and something I never thought I would say. But #neverTrump and at least she'll be good for transportation.

He's the prohibitive favorite, yes, but he'd be a fool if he actually thinks he can act like one, rather than just say it. The math could still work against him, even if he wins in Indiana. Cruz isn't going to give up until Trump clears 1237, and probably not even then. This is a case where I'd seriously say that it's not over until its over.

Yes, Red Neck Republicans have cursed the Republican Party and the nation with this megalomaniac, who believes women are dogs, slobs, fat pigs, and disgusting animals, with this megalomaniac who advocates carpet bombing babies and toddlers, with this megalomaniac who took 24 hours to publicly disavow the endorsement he received from radical racist and KKK leader David Duke, and only disavowed Duke when forced to do so because the media was covering his refusal extensively, with this megalomaniac who believes Mexican men are rapists and murderers, with this megalomaniac who has branded all Muslims as terrorists.

Yes, Trump is, as of April 26, 2016, for all intents and purposes, the Presidential nominee of the Republican Party.

Trump will now have no problems at all in winning more than 1237 delegates.

Trump will be the nominee...even if he doesn't reach 1237 there is no realistic alternative.

Even if he hasn't Cruz's announcement today will probably help him.

Oregon, Washington, California, New Jersey, and New Mexico aren't blue enough for you?

Oh, and there's a decent likelihood he wins Indiana and West Virginia too.

So, Cruz is stuck with the other three irrelevant flyover states.

Great. Glad to know you won't be needing 'em in November.

I love how a Hoosier disses 'flyover' states while at the same time talking up West Virginia.

Southern Indiana is more "flyover" than the rest of the state.  Northern Indiana is more industrial (with a few rural pockets), and Central Indiana is more urban.

I love flyover states and voted for Cruz.  But let's be real.  Trump will walk into the convention with a legitimate claim on the nomination.

I'm substantially in agreement with your reading of the state of the Republican race (ironic CRUZ support and unironic hatred for both remaining major candidates notwithstanding), but it's definitely a little unsavory for somebody to be making these 'developmental state'-esque arguments about the primary for what is culturally an exurban-and-rural-interests party, especially considering that exurban and rural ire have been largely what's prevented Trump from being a Northeastern regional or gimmick candidate.

Winnie!  You're alive!  We were worried about you after Tuesday's results came in.

How do you feel knowing that three in five of Republicans in your own state support Trump?  Or, in a room of ten Republicans, you would likely be the only Cruz supporter?  Smiley
