I'm referring to someone here or AAD who once claimed that I was the most nationalist poster on the forum because of my dedication to my scene and belief in its culture being superior to all others. But of course no one is born "scene", it's a completely chosen identity.

Like people that accept Jesus into their hearts as adults, they seem to be the most active and "into it".  You've never met an immigrant that LOVED America?  Like way more than most Americans that love America?  I've met quite a few.  Sure some of it may be like Apu in that episode where he was going to get deported.  "The NY Mets are my favorite squadron!"  But a lot of it is genuine.

I worded it kind of oddly I guess (blame the character limit), I was asking more if connection to "chosen groups" is itself a form of nationalism as at least one person seems to think.

I mean yeah I do consider myself much closer to the other people in my scene than people of a similar ethnic background or who happened to be born in the same country, but I don't see that as nationalism.

I'm a Quebecois nationalist, but only within the time period when they really were disenfranchised (and when an ancestor of mine fought in a rebellion against the colonial government). Now, they're doing pretty well in Canada, so I don't really support Quebecois independence that much.
