..........Thoughts?

Stuck to his lines about making America strong and standing up to the world.

Attacked Obama and Hillary.

Repetitive, went on too long.

Trump was so wooden in the beginning, that for a few seconds I didn't realize it was him (I was listening to it on SiriusXM).  And he kept missing his punchlines, even the ones that he regularly hits.  It was obvious that he was well in over his head and that (as usual) he had been too lazy to practice and polish up this speech.

On the positive side, I give him points for trying to formulate a policy.  Believe it or not, there were a number of points which made a lot of sense (the fact that only 5 NATO countries contribute the required amounts to the organization, leveraging the Chinese to pressure N. Koreans, the issue with Obama allowing snubs from the Cubans and the Saudis; even his comment about Obama coming in fourth at the IOC had some merit - until he effectively suggested that Obama should have "bought votes" to give the Olympics to the US).

However, all the time I was thinking how Hillary would make absolute mincemeat of Trump's (in)expertise of foreign policy.  Things will not end well for the GOP if Trump is the nominee!

It was a filled with contradictions and had very little detail. It was like whoever wrote that speech put Trump, Rand Paul and current GOP foreign policy talking points into a blender. It was a mess but I am sure his supporters loved it.

He would be shredded in a foreign policy debate.

Content-wise, it really just consisted of his usual nationalist, non-interventionist talking points, so nothing new there.  I think his main goal at this point is to diffuse some of the fear many have about his temperament, and the idea of him having his finger on the button, while also projecting strength.  In that respect, he was successful, in my opinion.  The real question is whether he was able to make the establishment more comfortable with the idea of having him at the top of the ticket.  Stay tuned.

The speech showed Trumps real persona.

Trump is a peaceloving humanist. He is also an isolationist and a protectionist.
He didn't mention any of that stuff like the wall, immigration and such, which we all know was never serious and is never going to happen.

He identified the enemy - radical Islam and about the others he said they could all be friends.
He said - no nation building from now on. Just stabilization.

He doesn't want to wage war and will do so only if absolutely necessary.
His last remark about the biggest threat in the world being the weapons shows his peaceloving and tolerant nature the best.

Agree.
Very low energy.
No one, no longer has any confidence in Little-Hands-Drumpf-Fuhrer. He lost all respect people could have had for him, over the last 11 months or so.

Here is a little of how the Allies feel after Trump's speech (from the French AFP press agency):

"..Republican White House hopeful Donald Trump promised Wednesday a top-to-bottom overhaul of US foreign policy to put "America First" and make its allies pay up.

In a speech short on specifics that left Washington policy experts scratching their heads, Trump warned that Europe and Asia may have to defend themselves.

He vowed to tear up trade deals, re-tool NATO to oppose migration and "radical Islam" and put US national interests ahead of all other considerations..."

That.. was actually incredible for Donald. Completely showed his populist side and differences from the neocon foreign policy you so commonly hear of in the modern GOP.

That was the first time I almost broke into a smirk at how he sounded like he has his stuff together. His people really are prepping this guy for a fight.

Where.....on earth.....did he find them..... in a high school social studies class?

I find it a bit strange to see so many Americans criticizing the idea of having a foreign policy which is actually centered on promoting/enhancing American interests. Yes, we have spent far too much blood and treasure in recent years fighting wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and to what end? Voters are tired of having to spend so much time, energy, and money worrying about all of the world's problems, especially when we have enough to worry about right here at home. If Trump finds a way to drive this message home and make a case against some of the things the establishment folks have done recently, his message will probably resonate.

Good grief. Trump supporters have been either completely duped or are completely duping themselves.

Dangerous, foolish, irrational, scary, terrifying, irresponsible, a clown, a disaster. These are just some of the words used to describe the prospect of a Donald Trump presidency by politicians, diplomats and analysts around the world.

But Putin is a Trump fan.

This.

Being heavily focused on American interests and viewpoints vs. what others may think was a YUGE theme for Ronald Reagan in 1980.  It's a theme that works when folks believe that America is getting the short end of the stick in World Affairs.

Actually the basic gist of his argument - a relative withdrawal from the Middle Eastern and European spheres and rapid attempt to dominate the Pacific theatre isn't too different from a lot of Obama's agenda.  Different temperaments though, and Trump's loathing of multilateralism will  him over should he become Pres. (Although the right-wing cucks on here that are impressed by masculine shows of strength will probably disagree)

$500 bet on it here and now. I'll even give you 2-1 odds.

If you can scrape the money together from rent i'm guessing you save living in your parents' basement, i'm perfectly serious.

It's clear that the US military and 'establishment' want to encircle China for better or for worse. Perhaps if they feel that Obama's nicely softly trade-focused approach is too slow at their goal, Trump's aggro will convince them. I'm not sure it works - if Trump inspires a backlash in Japan, Korea, Indonesia etc. (Also the Philippines, what with Duterte coming in - although the two may have complementary personalities) the anti-Chinese alliance becomes more fragmented.

Peter Beinart had an interesting take on it:
